Hello, all: I am responding to Virginia's request to put our "brick wall" out there for public view and consideration. My ggg-grandfather was John J Smith of Cartersville, Bartow County, Georgia. My brick wall, in his regard, is the place of his birth and his parentage. I am reasonably certain he was born in SC in 1790 (or at least that's the data that has come down through various sources - most notably a post-war court case to recover money from the US Army). I know that he had roughly 24 children (12 each by two successive wives). I am NOT positive of the wives maiden names, but I do have the children and their children. I descend from George Right Smith (my gg-grandfather), a later son in the first litter, who married Frances Spencer, raising three children to adulthood. One of those, Robert Warren Smith, is my g-grandfather, who took his family of four sons and a wife to Virginia in 1922. I would love to confer with anyone else with information on this family, especially if you can provide (1) documented proof of John J Smith's birth and parentage; or (2) point me to the location of such information. Thanks! Jon Strickland
Hi, folks. I am Fran Goode Akridge - Daughter of Abram Goode (Pine Log) and Lois Hasty Granddaughter of (Hiram) Carter Goode and Myra Roberts (Pine Log) Step-granddaughter & great-niece of Harley Goode (Pine Log) Great-granddaughter of Abrum Goode and Sarah Ann Harris (Pine Log) Great-granddaughter of Billy Roberts and Eliza Ann Fuller (Pine Log) Great-great granddaughter of Abey Goode, Jr. (Pickens Co.) and Barbara Hudlow (Pine Log) Great-great granddaughter of Hiram Harris and Martha Jane Quillian (Gilmer Co.) Great-great granddaughter of Tom Roberts and Mary Collins (Salacoa) Great-great granddaughter of Maurice Solomon Fuller and Nancy Overton Harris (Salacoa) Great-great-great-granddaughter of Jacob Archibald Collins and Jane Hardin (Salacoa) As a girl, I always thought that heaven would look like Pine Log and God would look like Uncle Harley. I'm in my 60s now and still hoping I was right. During the 1870s, Abrum and his family moved to Pine Log. Michael Goode, his twin, and Joseph Goode, his younger brother, also moved to Pine Log. They brought their mom, Barbara Hudlow Goode with them. She died in 1882, while all were living in Pine Log. Does anyone know where she is buried? My dad's sister, Mary Goode, married James Martin Maxwell, and I am one of at least six Goodes or Roberts who have married into the same Maxwell family over the last hundred years. My husband is James Maxwell Elmo Akridge, grandson of Ellie Maxwell and Maxwell Bowen. My Uncle J. M. knew how he was related to my husband, but I was not interested in family history at the time and did not ask him to tell me the details. Does anyone have details about the lineage of the Maxwells of Pine Log? Fran Goode Akridge
