Carolyn, Yes, I know where these are in Bartow, Chilio, Stilesboro and Ligon. Never heard of Taxes Valley or Payne. They are included on the Bartow Co. Census as areas where census was taken. Linda Gossett Cochran
There is a Texas Valley community in Floyd County. It is not listed as a town but very well could have been in the 1800s. This section of Floyd County borders Bartow and Chattooga Counties in Georgia. Betty Cason
I have a map of 1895 Bartow it does show Stiles boro in the south west corner several other strange name but that's the only one of those you list. Many towns changed names & fairly often through the years. Good luck Valeria Carolyn P Flowers wrote: > Does anyone know of an area in Bartow County called "Texas Valley" during > the late 1800s and early 1900s. > Also, towns named Stilesboro, Ligon, Cholio & Payne. Carolyn, This site has been helpful to me. http://mapping.usgs.gov/www/gnis/gnisform.html I typed in Stilesboro under FEATURE NAME. Clicked Georgia under State, Clicked Populated place under FEATURE TYPE. Then clicked SEND QUERY. The following info came up. You can then click on MAP, when it comes up, you can then zoom OUT or IN. Feature Name: Stilesboro Feature Type: populated place Elevation: 754 State: Georgia County: Bartow USGS 7.5' x 7.5' Map: Taylorsville Latitude: 340617N Longitude: 0845457W Happy Hunting, Carol

I am researching the surname of POWER and connections to KING & DRUMMONDS. I don't have all the dates but I do know that Jas. A. KING was in Bartow county in early 1900s. Hi, I finally got all the new data entered and posted the revision on line. The site covers descendants of Henry Gaines, 1737-1830 VA-SC, and their spouses. There are over 3000 individual names listed. The URL is http://home.att.net/~ecase/ Quite a few of Henry's descendants migrated to Bartow Co., including my direct ancestors. Please pass the word to other surname sites that are affected. <>Ed
In the 1880 census I find my Great Grandfather (Johnson) Milligan Adams, age 23, married with family, living in the N 1/2 of M.D. 851. Page 433B in Dwelling Number 128, Family Number 252. Still in the same Dwelling Number, Household Number 251 was Beaunford Adams age 19, married and Household 250 was W.T. Adams age 61 married to Mary A. with two sons, Robert E. and J.P. and daughter Mary J. I assume this was father with unmarried and married children. Is there a Will or an intestate estate settlement for W.T. Adams in Bartow County. I think he died in 1890?? Lynn Farrer mlfarrer@ij.net

Thank you. I do have a girl who was in Leonard Towers will Iza who also went to Mississippi though she does not have child named Joseph perhaps he is her brother I will look future into it. Here is a thumbnail of what I have. Isabella was about nine when her parents moved to GA. and 15 when her mother died. She returned to Pickens Co., SC. to live with relatives, to attend school. She married Uncle Leonard Tower's brother-in-law, and with no children of his own. He Leonard took particular interest in her welfare, evidenced by leaving her 1/4 of his estate in his will of 1861. She was called lza in his will when he states that she moved to Mississippi after the death of her husband. She then married Thomas Jefferson Humphreys. 22 Mar. 1836, in Bachelors Retreat , SC. He was born Pickens Co., SC. and died 25 May 1855, in Florida. He was the son of Rev. David Humphreys and Martha Word. In Dec 1846, Thomas J. humphreys sold, for $2000. to Leonard Towers, 1000 acres on the Tugaloo River. Isabela Humphreys signed the dower release. Pickens Co. SC. Deeds F-1: 119-120. Children: Martha Word Humphreys - Born, 7 dec. 1836 died 28 jul. 1849 Rebecca Jane Humphreys - Born 4 Jan. 1838 SC. died 5 jun. 1919 she married Abbott. Leonard Towers Humphreys - Born 4 dec. 1839 SC. died 27 sept 1862. John Alanson Humphreys Sarah Harriet Humphreys Elizabeth Susan Humphreys David Cicero Humhreys - Born 26 Nov. 1846 SC. Thomas Jefferson Humphreys - Born 5 dec 1848 died 17 Aug. 1849 Horace Josephus Humphreys - Born 24 Aug. 1850 SC. died 25 Dec.1878 perhaps he is named after a relative. We need to find out where they lived in Mississippi. Isabella Lorraine Humphreys - Born 10 sept. 1853 SC. died 6 May 1935 She married a man named Ferry. Now the Amos & John you find in the SC.census are sons of Isaac Sr. there is an Isaac Jr., Benjamin, William,& a (Jeremiah whom I have never been able to trace either ), these are found listed in settlement of Isaac Sr. estate Greenville, SC. 1811-1812 I will see if I can find who Leonard's father is it may well be that Joseph is his brother. The census again may be the clue then when we find the area and date we can look at land deeds in that area. Another line to pursue is where the dau. M. O. lived died did she or Joseph's wife request his pension write and ask sense you have the date he died and the war they will let you know it's only $7. I believe there is another person who is also looking for Joseph but has no more than you, will go back through my mail. Sincerely Valeria Melton wrote: > Valeria, ok, you got me thinking. i looked in my "towers" folder.
