    2. I don't know the name of the hospital, it was located on leake St. I believe it was just a clinic. Dr. Wofford and Dr. Quillian ran it at that time they were the only two doctors in town. I was born their in the 1940's. sorry I couldn't be more help. Linda

    2. I believe the hospital during 1910-20 was Sam Howell Memorial Hospital. If you are wanting to obtain information from a medical record, you may have a difficult time due to confidentiality laws. The hospital no longer exists but I'm sure the records have been stored. Fran

    1. [GABARTOW] Fwd: Update on Floyd County, GA Heritage Book
    2. D. Scott Dingler
    3. Update on Publication of Floyd County, GA Heritage Book... The final proofing of "The Heritage of Floyd County, GA" was mailed on January 15, 2000. We are looking for a late January or very early February publication. The Floyd County Heritage Book Committee is very excited about this book...especially considering we have volunteered a lot of time over the past year and a half helping put this together for Walsworth Publications. It is a beautiful collector's edition hardbound book written by and about people of Floyd County, Georgia. It features over 500 family articles and over 300 topical stories and over 500 photographs. The color is "leaf green" with stamped gold lettering and borders with a gold outline of Floyd County, inset with the historic Clock Tower. The county and Clock Tower are enclosed within a double-ringed gold-stamped oval. Though there are many wonderful stories about people, communities, churches, schools and businesses, there are two special stories that I am glad made it in this book. Both of these deal with local landmarks that have been destroyed since we first sent all submissions in for publication. These landmarks are the old Rock Store along Kingston Highway in the Johnson School community and the 100+ year old Foster's Mill Store along Ga. 100 south of Rome. For more information about ordering or when the book will be available, please contact me at the e-mail address below. Snail-mail inquiries may be sent to the committee address. e-mail: FloydBook@aol.com Snail-mail: Floyd County Heritage Book P. O. Box 6096 Rome, GA 30162 Sincerely, Tony Pope, Co-Chair Floyd County Heritage Book Committee

    1. Re: [GABARTOW] County info help please
    2. Hello Fellow Georgia Searchers, Am I correct in that Calhoun Ga is in Bartow County? As I was flying down I-75 a couple of weeks ago, I passed a road sign announcing a town named Calhoun. I believe I was in Bartow County but after 1000 miles in 1 1/2 days I wasn't really sure. As I traveled further, the thought came to me that my Grandfather purportedly was born in Calhoun, whether Calhoun Ga or Calhoun AL is uncertain. Could some kind soul living in Bartow County do me the favor of checking to see if there was an Elijah Hampton HESTERLY born in the town of Calhoun GA.? The time frame would have been about 1875. His parents, my GreatGrandparents, were Dr. Elijah Lynch HESTERLY and Mary Pitman HESTERLY. It is unknown whether the family actually lived in the area or were traveling through on their way to Arkansas. I know very little of either my Grandparents or Greatgrandparents on either side of the family, as all had died, long before I was even a gleam in my fathers eye. Thanks for any help, I will forever be in your debt. Hal Hesterly

    1. [GABARTOW] CARPENTER, TAYLOR, DUNCAN, SATTERFIELD
    2. S DUNCAN
    3. In 1860 James Elbert DUNCAN (b. 1824) married Susan CARPENTER (b. 1839), daughter of Epsy and John D. Carpenter, well-to-do merchant in Cassville. The Carpenters had at least eight younger children (Lucy E.W. (1841), Louisa (1843), Thomas H. (1845), Sarah? E. (1847), John (1848), Charles E. (1853), unnamed male baby (1857) and male N.N. (1859). James E. Duncan soon after married a daughter (name unknown) of Wiley Benjamin and Mary A. TAYLOR, who had come to Cass County from Butts County GA after 1836. The Taylors had children: James (1839), Monroe (1842), Mary A. (1843), Thomas (1846), Zachariah (1848) and Permelia Narcissa (1851). James Duncan and most of the Taylors moved to Monroe County, IN, about 1864. As of 1850 James E. Duncan was living with Hezekiah SATTERFIELD and his wife (James's sister) Martha Duncan Satterfield (b 1818) NW of Cassville. The Satterfield family consisted of William (b 1837), Elizabeth (1841), Julia (1842), John (1845), James (1847), Augustus (1848), March (1850?), Joseph (1851?) and Rachel (1854). Most of the Satterfields moved to Monroe County, IN, probably about 1864, and later at least Joseph, March and Rachel moved to Casey Co., KY. Any additional information on the above families in GA or KY would be appreciated.
