Look at Part 1.4. I tried to separate and forward it alone, but can't. This is a little long, but you may want to print and save it until you can get back to hunting. I'm going to save it, too, and hope I can find it whenever I can get back to it. Grandmother Walker is in the hospital in rehab for a few days. She slipped and fell in the bathroom last night, was taken to emergency. The orthopedist x-rayed and found it wasn't as bad as it could have been. A small crack in the upper leg, but he didn't want to wait and went right on to surgery, went in and put a pin in it. He said, surprisingly, her bones in her legs are in good condition, and she should be fine, but she has to stay there to have therapy for a while. Right now, Cecil thinks they may need to have someone with her all the time, since she may not be able to move around enough to call nurses, etc. That's not provided or paid for, so they'll have to pay people like they did before or have all of us stay, as much as possible. BUT I already had something scheduled Friday and Saturday, and with a number of people involved and scheduled --- well, Ray said if they need us on the weekend, he'd just go by himself. There'd be nothing to do but sit and call a nurse if she needed anything done. However, from what they say, it may not even be necessary. The doctor said he wants to get her into therapy right away and get her moving to keep her mobile. We were surprised what he said about her bones. I'd always thought osteoporosis spread through the whole skeletal system, and didn't just settle in one area or so. Especially as advanced as hers is, you'd think it would be all over. It's a good thing, or she'd probably be in a really bad situation now. Did you hear from Dr. Eddy again, and getting everything moving? We'll be anxious to hear. I've been trying to read over, with Ray, the graduation instructions, and let you know something. I'll keep trying, and maybe we can finish it soon. Did you get the cookbook to Nell to display - or did she even agree to take it? I'd better run - need to get another e-mail off, finish up some laundry, get my machine and things together, and go to the sewing center early in the morning. Talk to you later. Mom **** I haven't lost my mind. Just saved it on a disk - somewhere.*** A Festival Vendor GABARTOW-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Part 1.1 Type: Microsoft MHTML Document 4.0 (message/rfc822) > > Part 1.2 Type: Microsoft MHTML Document 4.0 (message/rfc822) > > Part 1.3 Type: Microsoft MHTML Document 4.0 (message/rfc822) > > Part 1.4 Type: Microsoft MHTML Document 4.0 (message/rfc822)
Recently found a copy of a 1903 deed where three women, Emma E. Kay, Harriet M. Buford and Laura A. Wade of Bartow county sold 20 acres to O(scar). H. Henderson. Laura is a sister to Oscar. Are the other two women also related? Lynda
Sharon, I don't know if this will help or not, but I have a James CRAIG married to a Susan HOPGOOD in Cherokee County, GA slightly earlier than your Louise. I haven't been able to positively identify her parents, yet, but there are HOPGOODs buried in the Pleasant Arbor Cemetary in Northwest Cherokee County in the Salacoa Valley. This area of Cherokee butts Pickens as well as Bartow Counties. James and Susan moved to Gordon County for a time (1860 census) and I've lost track of them afterwards. I've not heavily researched this line, but will keep my eyes open for your Louise. Carole
There is an unusual way to search the LDS FamilySearch site which will allow you to easily access marriage records of Bartow County, GA- for atleast two different periods.. 1860's - 1880's and also, 1840's- 1860's. The LDS Custom site uses "Batch Numbers" for all the information that has been entered into it's system. Those Marriage record "batch numbers", that have been entered from public records, in mass quantities, begin with the letter "M". Below, I have identified the batch numbers for the two time periods, (I discovered), of Bartow County, for you...(see below). Should you want to try to locate records from another area.. you can do as I did, to see if the records from a different county and state have been entered into their system. I will post that after the "Bartow Marriage" instructions. You will need a browser 4.0 or above, to enter the LDS "Batch" system. *Go to http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchigi.asp *Into the "Batch Number" box enter ONE of the following numbers, M712061 ( this is for marriages 1840- part of the 1860's) or, M712062 ( this is for the 1860- 1880's) *Select "North America" in the "Region" pull-down box * Type in the surname you are looking for in the "Last Name" box. (last name only) * Click on the "Search" icon. You now have an indexed screen of all those with that surname, that were married in Bartow County, during that time period. By clicking on a particular name.. it will take you to the marriage record of that individual and their spouse. Finding out if there are "M" (marriage) "Batch Numbers" from other areas... in the LDS site, requires a little bit of detective work, but well worth the effort if you hit it. ( that is how I found the Bartow County Marriages- I was originally given the above instructions, and different batch numbers- for another state and county). You would have to go to the regular "ANCESTOR SEARCH" tab from the above starting screen. Enter a last name (only), then choose "United States" from the pull-down box on "Country". then click search-. I was searching for someone in Bartow County that I did not know their name.. so, from doing so much research in the area.. I knew a particular surname was prominent in that area, so that is the surname I chose to use. I looked down the pages of the surname results until I located a "Marriage" entry from the State of GA. and county of Bartow.. then I clicked on that entry. When the next screen came up with the marriage information, I noticed at the bottom of the page it listed an "M712062". I then used this number as the reference for the instructions I first gave for Bartow County Marriages, and it worked. I now had access to all of the marriages that had been entered for that period.. all I had to do is search by surname to locate the record. I also "played" with the batch number.. changing the last number, and that is how I discovered there was more than one time-frame for Bartow County. The "M" in the batch number is important.. I think that distinguishes those marriage records that were entered from public record information, from those that have been given by a single contributor- I noticed their numbers are completely different by nature. This is really easy, it sounds much more complicated than it is.. with having very little computer experience, I mastered it in one evening. I now have the "Batch" numbers for a half-dozen Counties across several states. Some of you "computer bugs' may see an easier way to locate the "M" batch numbers for the different areas. If so, please pass that information along to the rest of us. Best of luck. linda Madden Thompson

Looking for information on David ROBERTS (1874) who married Sarah CASEY (1863) in 1893 in this county. He was Sarah's second husband. Sarah's father was Elisha Casey who lived in Beasley's Gap. In Sept 1897 David ROBERTS shot and killed his father-in-law. David went to prison and I have lost track of him from there. I also do not know much more about Sarah. I would like to know her first husband's name. I believe that she had 2 young children at the time of the shooting but do not know names or whether they were male or female. I have the newspaper account of the incident and he is listed in the Black Book. Diane.Casey@bull.com
