Sharla, I am president of the Bartow County Genealogical Society and have both the early marriage records on hard copy and microfilm. I have checked my hard copy and also the 1850 and 1870 census and do not show any of the spellings you ask for. I will check the microfilm tomorrow at the Family Research Library in cartersville. and let you know tomorrow eve. Thanks for writing Jean Sharla Linex-Johnson wrote: > Does anyone have access to Bartow County early marriage records?? > > I'm needing a lookup for a J. Please excuse the multiple postings. I'm certain many of you have recently seen the picture of the "United States Eagle in Mourning" just as I have. I would like to the origin. I need to know for genealogical and historical purposes. It would mean so much to me in regards to my family history research. Please respond to me privately. Thank you! The library is the Family Research Library, located directly behind the Public Library in the Cartersville Business Annex. The Genealogical Society loaned the Public Library the first of the Newspapers and then when the Family Research Library was situated at 425 West Main street, the Public Library is at 429 West Main., the Research Library bought all of the older papers on microfilm and we now have them for viewing. starting about 1840., I have contacted the Towers descendants approx 2 years ago and told them of the old Towers Cem. in Adairsville. Will be happy to help anyone with their Cass/Bartow families. I do have the Bartow County Web site. I had heard it had been written about they listed several names along with a Sarah Towers. Well I went to see it for my self for I have long looked for my Sarah A. Towers and her family. To make a long story short, I found it but with great difficulty, tucked behind a subdivision and and a Farm with no drive way to it. I believe it may have been originally named Shaw cemetery. I am reporting the condition of it as of June 2001. I found it partially burned all but one piece of a wooden marker left and a handful of stone markers. My Sarah her husband William Benjamin Franklin Towers there two daughters Mattie Hicks and Maggie Hillburn their husbands and two of their children Paul and Alice. Luckily Sarah's parents John and Catherine Shaw. The only other graves are Self, Straight, and two more Shaws. Sadly the others mentioned in the earlier news article were not found. I did find a couple names the news article missed. The farmer whose land it connected to went to court just as he saw it was being burn and bulldozed to hault it's distraction, he successfully purchased the 6 acres need to preserve it. Such and good soul for he has no one buried in this cemetery nor dose he know of any of those families in it. I thank you Mr. Phillips. I photo graphed all that was there. Hi Mike. My GGGG grandfather was Joseph Hipps. He died in Cass County, GA in 1849, but he had several children who must have lived in Cass County also. Do you find any HIPPS listed in your 1850 census for Cass Co.? I am very grateful for any help you can give. Many thanks. Gus Hipp AJRFH3@AOL.COM
I just purchased a copy of the 1850 Cass County Census in book form (I sure love Ebay!). I am willing to do look ups if you can be fairly specific about who you are looking for.... The book contains the census records, the mortality schedule (those who died in the past year), and the slave schedule (only the owners names and the number of slaves they owned) An interesting note that may be helpful to some....a vast majority of people living in Cass County in 1850 came from South Carolina! Trying to find parents/family of Martha Brown born 9-22-1835 in Edgefield SC & died 9-30-1921 we think in Bartow County. She first married a Henry Cochran(B 1836 in SC)we beleive in SC & they are listed on the 1860 Paulding County census with children Mary(1856) & William (1857). Also listed is a Mary Brown age 63 & born in SC. (Maybe her mother????) Henry served in Co c 22nd regiment & claimed residence in Paulidng. He died during the war in Rapidan, VA. Martha then married C. M. Gladden we know before 1865. They had a daughter, Heneryetta who died in 1865 & is buried with her father in Crossroads Baptist church. C. M. died in 1884. Martha married a James Monroe McGuire 10-1-1885 in Paulding County at the home of Henry Washington (son of John & Susan Brown) & Sarah Smith Brown. James was born in Elbert County 8-12-1825 & died in Haralson County 8-22-1906. We can't link Martha to John & Susan Brown. They were all from SC. John & Susan were on the Chester Census & other members in Edgefield/Fairfield & we feel that she maybe a niece/cousin. We know that she is connected to them. John had a couple of brothers that we could not find family on the 1850 census. They may have died before the 1850 census & Martha & her mother??" Mary" might have come with the Browns to Paulding County Ga. Any help would be appreciated. Suzi Motley Wilmington, NC

I would like to obtain a copy of the Bartow County Genealogical Society Quarterly Newsletter which I found listed on ancestry.com. It is in relation to John W. & Loduskey Ann Tidwell Brown.(John is my 2x gr-grandfather) The info listed as to the copy is: VOL 18 - #2 summer 1999. I have the address for the Society but wanted to know if they had back issues and the cost so I could send a check or a donation. Thanks, Suzi Motley Wilmington, NC
