    1. [GABARTOW] 1864 Confederate Census
    2. Mike
    3. I do not know if you know about this or not....I just stumbled upon it at the Cobb County library tonight. In 1864 the Confederate Government conducted a census to see how many able bodied men there were to refill the ranks of the army. From what I could tell the ages start at 15 and go up to 40's or 50's. It is a counting of all the men who were not currently in the Army. What's neat about it is that they give the occupation and the reason the person was exempt from service. If anyone is interested I will get the exact title and may be willing to do look ups. There were only about 10 pages for Bartow County. Mike Wennin Commander Elect Stiles-Akin Camp #670 http://www.randomc.com/~nash

    3. True, your address does not become available to the entire list when you are on digest. That is why most of those on a digest do not have a problem with viruses responding to address books. 3. This wasn't actually sent from the list. Rootsweb doesn't allow attachments. It was from a member of the list and the subject was "re:" a message I had sent earlier to the list. So, at first glance you think it is from the list. I have no proof that the attachment contained a virus. I did not dload it. But it is very much like the attachment that I got a while back. The name of the virus I got was W32/Badtrans. You can go to Mcafee.com and find out about it. And, again, the person on the list sending was not really sending it. She should scan her computer for viruses, though. The virus is getting in her address book and sending itself out. 1. [GABARTOW] Re: DAR lookups
    2. I have a question regarding DAR lookups. What do you do if you get a hit? I have taken advantage of the kind offers to do lookups in the past and have gotten hits but I don't know what to do then to get the records. My assumption is that the records are pedigree charts and other evidence to prove a potential DAR members relationship to the Rev Soldier. Is this correct? How do I get copies of this information? Thanks. Diane.Casey@bull.com

    2. Linda Atkins
    3. I have just gotton an email from Kathy Medlin from the Bartow list. I recognise it as a virus that was going around not long ago. Kathy probably doesn't even know anything about it. The virus gets in your address book and sends itself to everybody listed there. The email has an attachment. And it says "please look to the attachment." Not AT, but TO. I'm afraid that I'm very familiar with those words. I got another similiar email a few months ago and was dumb enough to download the attachment. My computer was in the shop for over a week and they had to reformat my hard drive. PLEASE DELETE THE EMAIL if you get it. And don't blame the person that sends it because he or she did not really send it. Linda Atkins

    1. [GABARTOW] DAR lookups
    2. lynda wilson
    3. ear All: Some volunteers from the society of the Daughters of the American Revolution ( DAR) have established a wonderful new program for users of Rootsweb. These volunteers will do lookups in their database and records if you think one of your ancestors served in some capacity during the American Revolution. These volunteers have more databases that are available to them than the ones commonly used by the search engines. The process is fairly simple : Go to the DAR message board: There are two ways to do that: > www.rootsweb.com > message boards > topics > organizations and societies > DAR Or if you want the easy way :-) http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=board&r=rw&p=topics.organizations.dar Address your message as follows: subject : DAR Lookup > surname> location > dates In the body of the message put the information regarding the person, Be sure to fill out the surnames box at the bottom since the new search engine will be keying on that item. Leave the email response box checked and you will be notified when the DAR volunteers respond . Give them a week or so to get to your request. We really appreciate their efforts. This info can be key for: a: joining these prestigious organizations ( DAR & SAR) b: sending a request for the copies of the files that were submitted and the information they have available. Many thanks to: Glenda Thompson DAR VIS Volunteer Vice Chrm. Patriot Lookup for organizing this effort and all the many volunteers that are donating their time and effort to us instead of pursuing their own ancestors, Best Regards John A Hansen DAR board admin. BTW: Please forward this message to other lists and boards that each of you are involved in. A word of thanks to each volunteer that does this work and especially the one that responds to your post would probably be highly appreciated.
