You did such a great job putting your facts together ..... We don't seem to have the Co H - 18th Regiment on-line, but I'd like to add a link when we do, so others will know about this bio. Virginia

I'd like to put in my two cents' worth on the History of Pine Log Methodist Church by Garrison and Mahan. I met Mrs. Garrison 2 years ago and purchased this gem from her. I contains a wealth of information about not only the church history and a listing for those buried in the church cemetery but also information about many of the early families. I treasure my copy and refer to it often. CAROL
We've been talking about the Pine Log Methodist Cemetery, and I just found out that the Pine Log Methodist History is still available !! (well, a few copies anyway) Mrs. Elizabeth M. Garrison and her brother Joseph B. Mahan, Jr. worked on this book together and it was published in 1983. The brother has passed away now. Mrs. Garrison will be 91 June 6, 2001 and still very much interested in Pine Log, and even talks about adding some names to her work! What a wonderful genealogist! You can e-mail, Mrs. Garrison's son-- Ngrdru@aol.com Joe Garrison They are $35.00 plus $5.00 handling and postage My understanding is that they have just a few left, so if you are interested, write to Joe Garrison right away.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/polk.htm I am so excited to let you know that thanks to Cassandra, we have the Church minutes from 1840-1870 on-line for the Van Wert Baptist Church located in originally Paulding now Polk County. This represents an enormous amount of time on Cassandra's part in typing these. The story of these minutes is fascinating in itself: "Transcriber's note: This handwritten book was discovered tucked behind the wainscoting of a house located on West Elm Street, Rockmart or Cedartown, Georgia, when the house was being razed. I have not been able to determine the age of the home or the original owner. The house was destroyed between 1955 and 1958. The property was last owned and torn down by the Seaboard Railroad. The finder turned it over to Homer Morgan who in turn gave it to Hugh Watts Randall. Mr. Randall is a descendant of the Morgans who were prominent in the church and a prominent local historian." Now doesn't that give us all hope for uncovering some long-forgotten documents!! Cassandra's ancestors belonged to this church and she did us all the great kindness of sharing them.... Church Minutes like this give us a rare look into the more personal life of our ancestors.....and especially if they happened to be church leaders. If anyone has minutes from any church, I'd love to work with you to get them on-line. What you might think is uninteresting might be the very tidbit that would help someone else in knowing more about their ancestor. Virginia Crilley GAGenWeb Archives, State Manager
Thank you so much Betty for sending this material about the Strain family. She believes they are buried in Pine Log Methodist Church Cemetery. If anyone has any other burials, please send the information, so we can get it on-line. I'm putting this in the Obits section as well as putting their names on the Cemetery listing. Just imagine how excited someone will be to find these clippings on-line.... http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bartow.htm SUSAN MAYBEN STRAIN She was Susan (Mayben) Strain, wife of Adolphus Middleton Strain, both were born in Bartow Co., GA and married there on 5/1/1870. Susan was the daughter of James and Mary Mayben who were born in SC. Susan died, in childbirth, of Typhoid. This article appeared in the Current American newspaper on 7/28/1892 and I was thrilled to find it as I didn't have the death date of my grandmother. Death of a good lady. "On Tuesday, the 19th, at her home in at Cass Station, GA , Mrs. A.M. Strain, after an illness of nearly four weeks with typhoid fever, passed peacefully and triumphantly from the scenes of this world to the glories of heaven. She was forty-two years of age, and the mother of ten children, all of whom, with her devoted husband, mourn the loss of a loving, gentle, patient mother, and a true, kindly, and affectinate wife. To them the sympathies of their friends go out in the sad afflictions that has come to their hearts and their home. Mrs. Strain was a staunch member of the Methodist church and a God-fearing christian, and is now reaping the reward of all her suffering and care." Also the death of her young baby follows and the following death notice is as follows: The Courant American October 27, 1892 "Cass Station" Last Monday night after a lingering illness of some weeks, little Rubie Strain, infant daughter of Adolphus and Susan Strain, passed from earth, to join her mother in heaven. Little Rubie is buried there with her mother. I haven't been to the Pine Log Methodist Church Cemetery to see if their graves are marked and I'm afraid they may be unmarked but this is where they are buried according to my dad. Virginia Crilley
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bartow.htm Patricia, Thank you so much for your Obit - Juliette Johnson Butts Bryant I've posted this in Bartow and will also list it in Greene County. Virginia
I am looking for any information on Charles S. Park (10-07-1839 02-18-1904) who is buried in the Emerson Cemetery. He was a bugler for Co. C of the 118th NY Inf. during the Civil War. I am in touch with the author of a book being written about the regiment and he is interested in anything I can find. It would be nice to get Emerson mentioned in the book! The plot at the cemetery is fairly large and the tombstone is a double one, but his wife's information is not there... Any leads would be appreciated! http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bartow.htm Harold, Thank you for the very interesting story of your ancestor McDaniel McMaree who lived in the Pine Log Community. I've posted it under Biographies.... and I'm hoping that other people searching for this family will be able to connect with you. Virginia
Carol is in the process of providing me with some names and information for her ancestors who are buried in the Pine Log Methodist Church Cemetery. This is such a famous old one for Bartow county, and I thought it would be helpful to get this one on-line....even a partial listing. If you have family members buried there, I'd be glad to add them to our listing. Just send them to me.... we're just going with an alphabetical listing at this point. Virginia Crilley

I was wondering if someone on the list might be able to answer a few questions for me. I have been searching for my 4th great grandfather, Joshua Smith Reeves, for some time now. I found him listed in Cass County in 1850. I was unable to find him or his wife after this time. The other day I had someone send me this information on him: "Joshua Smith Reeves died first of year 1860, died intestate: Cass County Ga. "Admin proceedings started 14 July 1860 (mb-e p. 189)? Robert C. Hooper & Noah Reeves (next of kin) appointed administrators 1 Oct 1860" My question is, would this be an administrator bond? I am not familiar with this type of record. My second question is, would it be possible to get a copy of this from the courthouse, and if so, what the cost would be for this type of record. Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions. Thanks, Kim Email: KimWilson67@aol.com
To all I'm interested in William & Mattie CHUNN of Barstow Co, GA & their descendants I have found them in the 1880 & 1990 census in Cassville if you have any information please e-mail me thanks & take care, Debbie
Hello List, I have just signed on so here is who I am and what I am researching. My name is Steve Strickland. My line is: George W., John Robert, William McKinley, William Roy then me. My brick wall is George W. Strickland's father. The reason I signed on to the Bartow County list is Thomas Cronan. He married George W.'s child, Mary Ann. I was hoping to find descendants of George W.'s other children so I could find out what, if anything, they knew about George W. and his parents. My Dad says Thomas Cronan is buried somewhere around Cartersville. Does anyone have anything on Tom Cronan? Here is all I have: Tom Cronan b. March 1852, married Mary Ann Strickland (b. 1862, Gilmer, GA) November 9, 1893. They are in the Gordon County, GA, census of 1900 and in the Polk County, GA, census in 1920. Mary Ann died in 1936, and since she was ten years older, and was buried in East Etowah, McMinn, TN, next to her brother and sister in law, I figure Tom must have died near to but after 1920. Thanks in advance for your time and help. Steve Strickland
