A death certificate for William Phillips is also acceptable proof for the UDC and surely one must be available. Please try this, it will have parents and places they were all born as well as the name of his spouse. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Hello Everyone, Please, I am desperate. I have been searching for a marriage record for my grandparents so I can join the United Daughters of the Confederacy, I am writing to all the counties in north and north east, GA and east, TN. If this get through here are the names. William Arthur PHILLIPS born 1872 GA (Maybe Jackson County) Married Donzella or Donnie MCDONALD b. 1883 Crossville,TN My mother was born 1916 Hamilton Co. TN my Aunt 1921 Chula,Tifts County,GA William PHILLIPS died in an accident Monroe CO, TN in 1926. I may be able to use a census with them both on it, but the only one would be 1920. So far no luck. My grandfathers death certificate is Mrs. WM. Phillips instead of her name. My mother and Aunts birth cert. has both their names but does not say they were married. I really appreciate any little bit of information or advise. Fran Murphy Blount County, TN
Do any of you have ancestors who drew their Bartow County (at that time it was Cherokee land).....and was described as 3rd Section of Cherokee Lands.... There are published books on the lotteries. Here's a summary of what I believe is available....and a sample of what you might find in each book. If you know of other resources (and on-line ones too)....please share with this Bartow List.... 1832 Cherokee Lottery 1832 Cherokee Lottery Smith, James F. The book indicates: Eighth District, Fourth Section, Cherokee. 160 Lewis Maddox, s. i. w., Hobbs's, Laurens.* Lewis Maddox, a soldier of the Indian war, a resident of Hobb's Military District in Lauren's County drew land as described. From the explanation of abbreviations also comes, "Note--All names marked * were granted previous to the first day of January, 1838." 1832 Gold Lottery 1832 Gold Lottery "Counties Formed in the 1832 Lotteries: 32. Cherokee which was divided into Cass (later Bartow), Cherokee, Cobb, Floyd, Gilmer, Lumpkin, Murray, Paulding and Union." Book provides this information: [Name, County, Mil. Dist., Lot/Dist, Section] Josiah Farrell's (Orphs.), Hancock, 113, 1146/2, 3 The orphans of Josiah Farrell, living in Military Distrcit 113 in Hancock County drew Land Lot 1145 in Land District 2, Section 3. It appears from the map in the front of the book that this land falls in Cobb Co. Grannyga90@aol.com I'm not sure if anyone has taken advantage of asking Mrs. Garrison for help....but thought I'd let you know that she is very interested in helping out where she can. Remember she's the one who is responsible for the Pine Log Methodist Church Cemetery book.... and she knows lots more than what is printed about that neighborhood and its settlers. So be sure to ask her and also share on this Bartow List, so we can all benefit from your question and her answers... Virginia Crilley
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bartow.htm Sharla has provided us with a partial listing of the 1870 census (4th District)..... She doesn't have time to do any more right now, but I hoped that someone else on this list might volunteer to do a few pages....either following where she left off, or doing pages that you are particularly interested in. Thanks, Sharla for your hard work. Virginia
does anyone know the location of this one? the Bellew Cemetery around Fairmount Does anyone have family buried there? thanks.... Virginia Crilley

My "brickwall" is my gg grandfather JACKSON ALLEN JONES, who died before 1880. His widow and younger children were in the Pine Log area in the 1880 census. After that she moved to Alabama. I have been told that an older son WILLIAM PERRY JONES died in a questionable accident in Bartow County between 1880 and 1900, but can find no information. Does anyone know of this family or of a Lime quarry in that area? Any help appreciated. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bartow.htm Jason, thank you so much for your Brownlow Bible contribution. I've just loaded it on-line! It is always exciting to be able to put a Bible Record on-line. Virginia
Grannyga90@aol.com Mrs. Garrison (who wrote the Pine Log Church Cemetery book) along with her brother, now had e-mail....see above. She is very excited about this, and would like to help us all out with anything she can. So if you are a researcher for that section of Bartow County... please do write to this list (or to her privately), and ask her. She is a wealth of information.... Virginia Crilley
Where can you research your NE Alabama Ancestors, make new family contacts, hear a great speaker, enjoy good food and have a good time? The answer would be at the Ancestor Swap Meet, in Gadsden, AL on April 27, 2002. For more information, contact rhyatt@hiwaay.net or SillyMoo55@aol.com The Ancestor Swap Meet is sponsored by Northeast Alabama Genealogical Society.
I have an undated obituary with a small notice below it regarding the 6th annual celebration of Moore's Day on October 25. The public library has no knowledge of it. Someone did remember there being another small library in town. Also that Moore's day was in honor of Dr. Moore, a black physician practicing in Cartersville. The time period would most likely be the late 1950's or 60's. I'm trying to find out a death year for a relative who died in Va. that formerly lived in Bartow County. His name was Jesse J Adams, son of Joshua Parker Adams and Sarah Edmondson. He lived in the Barnsley Community and his siblings were Mary Fountain and Fannie Barnes and Jim Adams. He had sons Theron and Weldon who lived in Miami, Fl. and Chattanooga, TN. Any help appreciated. Fran

Her name was Aletha. The brothers were Freeman, Francis Aurthur, Floyd and Dewey. If you think there may be a connection please let me know. Jim, If you want to read through ALL the Bartow mail list items, they are here: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index/GABARTOW I got there from this page: http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/GA/Bartow/ which has more Bartow links. (The link from here for "Threaded List Search Mailing Lists" doesn't work though). I arrived at the second page from here: http://resources.rootsweb.com/USA/GA.html which gives you all the counties in GA to choose from. Good luck.
