In my Whitecotton line many (after Tipton Whitecotton Sr) changed from Whitecotton to simply Cotton. Some of his children stayed Whitecotton and some changed to Cotton. My Whitecotton line were in VA in the early 1600's to IL & KY and on to GA. My great grandmother was born in Franklin Co., GA in 1878.
