Does anyone have access to cemetery records for Banks Co, GA? I am in need of several lookups from the Josiah MURR(A)Y family. Please, contact me if you have this cemetery information available. Thanks, Gary Treat
Hello researchers...I am pleased to announce the publication of the Sunrise Cemetery Records of Maysville, GA. I personally compiled this inventory of the cemetery and divided this 46-page booklet into an alpha section (names listed in alphabetical order with birth and death dates) and a grid section (names listed by burial location with birth and death dates). Additionally, the grid section has limited parental and spousal information. The inventory includes burials up to Feb. 1999. For your copy, please send $15 check or money order to Todd Dorsey, PO Box 197, Maysville, GA. Please pardon this intrusion of a commercial nature but this will help many out there. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Researching Brown, Bullock, Burroughs, Dorsey, Glenn, Hardman, Hampton, Hooper, Kirk, Lewis, Morris, Pittman, Sims, Thompson, Wilbanks, and Winfrey with over 9400 names in my database. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dorsey/ Authoring a book, The Early History of Maysville, Georgia. Hello Georgia, Banks County, researchers. I need the e-mail address of Mildred Grafton, Toccoa, Georgia. She is my cousin and I need to get in touch with her. I have her home address, but understand that she just got a new computer and she may be on-line now. Is there a mailing list for the County of Toccoa, Georgia? Thanks and HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I thought it might be interesting to include in my book that Maysville has had a female mayor, Mary Arnold. I started racking my brain to think of any other local communities having had a female mayor, and I couldn't come up with any. As far as I know, Commerce and Homer have never had a female mayor. I would love some comments on this subject. Regards, Todd Dorsey Maysville, GA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Researching Brown, Bullock, Burroughs, Dorsey, Glenn, Hardman, Hampton, Hooper, Kirk, Lewis, Morris, Pittman, Sims, Thompson, Wilbanks, and Winfrey with over 7400 names in my database. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dorsey/ Authoring a book, The Early History of Maysville, Georgia. NEWS AND NOTES AT ROOTSWEB ROOTSWEB ANNOUNCES BETA TEST OF UNLIMITED FREE WEB SITE SPACE Beginning today, RootsWeb will provide unlimited free Web site space to all RootsWeb users. A user may maintain multiple Web sites on RootsWeb at no charge, each containing literally hundreds of megabytes of material. The initial rollout of this program is a beta test. We expect that problems will arise and ask that you have patience with us as we solve them. To the best of our knowledge, this offer is unprecedented in two ways. First, no major Web space provider offers more than 25 megabytes of free Web space. Second, each RootsWeb webmaster may use such Web space to host multiple Web sites, with each such Web site located in a different section on RootsWeb. For example, a user with multiple interests may locate Web sites in different RootsWeb communities, such as genealogy, crafts, military history, etc., or locate multiple Web sites in the same community. Other sites may have one or both of these features, but if they do, we have not heard about it. This offer is particularly aimed at encouraging our users to post genealogical information that, owing to its storage and bandwidth requirements, has been prohibitively expensive to bring on line. Examples include large collections of photographs and scanned documents. We are sure that you will come up with many uses which we have not considered. (We encourage you not to place GEDCOMs in this Web space, as soon we will announce a better GEDCOM posting and editing solution.) To obtain your free Web space, please fill out the request form at <http://cgi.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/acctform.cgi>. Please allow us up to two weeks to process your request, as we expect an initial surge of demand. We will process requests as quickly as possible on a first come, first served basis. The Fine Print: 1. This is a beta test. We will change features of the offering based upon your feedback. You can expect that there will be malfunctions, problems, delays, etc. in this beta test. Please be understanding and please provide your complaints and suggestions for improvements to the RootsWeb HelpDesk at <http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/help.cgi/>. 2. Commercial advertising banners will appear at the top and, possibly, at the bottom of each Web page. These banners will require no programming by webmasters Simply upload your Web site to RootsWeb and the banners will appear automatically. Unlike free Web space provided by other major Web space providers, there will be no annoying interstitial "popup" advertisements on your Web site. 3. We will provide free Web space for any non-commercial use that, in our sole judgement, is not offensive to other RootsWeb users (for example, pornography, bomb formulas, excessively spicy recipes, any site that makes fun of the RootsWeb CEO, etc.). If you are interested in locating a commercial Web site on RootsWeb, please contact us at <rrti@rootsweb.com> and we will discuss other arrangements. 4. Webmasters may locate their Web sites in whatever RootsWeb communities they feel are appropriate. We suggest that Webmasters building Web sites that do not obviously fit into any of the existing RootsWeb interest area communities place those Web sites in a miscellaneous area we will be providing, and then move them into appropriate interest area communities as such communities form. RootsWeb reserves the right, in its sole judgement, to determine whether a Web site has been located in an inappropriate community. 5. Webmasters may choose their own account names as part of the registration process. We will allocate account names on a first come, first served basis. 6. At present, we cannot support non-rootsweb.com domain names. For the non-technical among us, this means that all account names must end in rootsweb.com. 7. Free Web space may be used only for publicly accessible material and not for online backup. 8. We ask that webmasters intending to use more than 100 megabytes of space indicate the amount of space that they require so that we can properly configure their accounts. Please make a realistic estimate. If you need more space later, we will provide it. 9. Webmasters should also be aware of two new mailing lists relating to Free Pages: Freepages-Announces -- a moderated list for making announcements to the Freepages webmasters (similar to Listowners-Announce). Freepages-Help -- a list to help webmasters with Free Pages accounts. The configuration of a Free Page web account will be slightly different than a regular Web account. * * * -- Toodles! Shirley

BANKS/FRANKLIN/STEPHENS county folks I just printed out the first draft of 772 pages of the proposed book and WOW it is the most boring piece of dribble since Eisenhower was a Corporal. Starts out well enough on the Kesler/Keasler families but soon turns boring as the dribble takes over as John born 1793 married Susan and had 16 children named x, y, and z. I have a few civil war letters that make a grand story of 2 brothers dying on the battlefields. I have a bunch of wills and land deeds that create interest I have a few pictures to brighten the otherwise dull material but I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MATERIAL TO MAKE THIS BOOK INTERESTING TO READ. How can we get the interest of our children and grandchildren if the book does not have pictures, old letters, diaries, other items that make a book, any book interesting??? If you want to help here is what the book consists of so far AND IT IS TOO BIG AND MUST BE CUT DOWN IN SIZE. If I don't get some more interest I will likely just eliminate whole chapters on whole families. 1] page 1 thru 154 covers the Intruductory info and the KEASLER/KESLER families and it could be and should be another 100 pages if folks would break loose and share their info with us. 2] page 154 thru 195 AYERS family 3] page 195 thru 249 CRUMP family 4] page 248 thru 277 PURCELL family and I have most of what Claude Purcell had in his manuscript that was never published just printed out and sold to the reunion participants. This should be much larger in volume. 5] page 277 thru 356 LEDBETTER Family no pics no old letters no nothing bu data such as statistics of the birth and death and taxes and marriages, no interest from anyone on this. 6] page 356 thru 365 PAYNE; probably will throw this out unless it gets better. 7] page 365 thru 367 TERRELL probably will throw this out too, nothing here except data on family births etc. 8] page 367 thru 403 MABRY Family no pics no wills no land deeds etc. 9] page 403 thru 429 MILLER this can grow, I do have more that will make this better. 10] page 429 thru 431 WHITFIELD nothing to spice this one up either. 11] page 431 thru 548 MARTIN family has much on folks far away but missing critical local families and branches that are still living in Prospect and close by e.g. Franklin and Stephens and Banks counties. A few pics and wills but not enough. 12] page 548 thru 574 GUEST Family this will probably be deleted due to lack of interest from anyone. 13] page 574 thru 772 POOLE Family: There are so many MABRYs in this and other crossovers into other families that it might be well just to delete this chapter as well and I certainly have had no one show any interest in this info. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\ So that is where we are at the moment. I have had some folks send me their GEDCOM files and their Family Group Sheets and I have given their names as participating in the ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS up front but more, MUCH MORE info is needed. If you want your branch of any of the above families included please send me your info. I will repeat this one more time. I WILL REAP NO FINANCIAL BENEFIT from this book it will be donated to the Prospect Methodist Church to be printed and or published as their project and any money collected will go to them. That is if they will accept it. The main theme or objective is to commemorate the family histories of the original members of the board of trustees of the Prospect Methodist Church which was established 1838 out of the previous Kesler Campground. Which reminds me I still need info on the old Kesler campground from old letters, diaries, ledgers, newspaper articles or whatever you might have. Who knows how much longer I will live or be able to continue this project so I have placed a cutoff date for info as 1 March 2000. I will put it to bed finished or not at that time. Sincerely requesting your help, and the help of your acquaintances, Charles. C. C.
