I understand it was regrouped many times. My Great Grandfather William Asbury Roberts served in it and was wounded July 1864 in the should and right thigh near Atlanta, GA., according to the book "These Men Wore Grey" by Karen T. Ledford. Other Great Grandfather was in Co. A 2nd Ga. State Troops. Dennis Stephens was his name. Both men enlisted from Banks Co. I would love to know more about these companies. Thank you, Bonnie

    3. To the person who wanted to know about Banks Co Historical Society: They had kind of stopped meeting...however, I do know that there is suppose to be a meeting April 3 rd at 7pm in the old Court House. I don't believe there is a phone there for the society. The Chamber of Commerce has their office on first floor. You might called them or phone the Court House and ask the Clerk of Probate Court. Hope this helps. Betty E.

    3. Friends, Thanks to everyone who responded to my query about the pension files of those Confederate veterans who filed in Banks County. I have since learned that the records are no longer at the courthouse in Homer and in all likelihood have been forwarded to the Archives in Atlanta. It was also suggested to me that I might try the local chapter of the Latter Day Saints. There is such a Mormon chapter here in Athens, and I will explore that avenue more fully. Lastly, there is a Historical Society of Banks County. I've been told that it is in the old courthouse in Homer, but no one seems to know whether or not they have a phone. Does anyone know of a phone number or and email address where this group may be reached? Thanks again for the data, David Lineberger david68@nbank.net www.davidsfamilytree.homestead.com/index.html "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to stand by and do nothing" -Edmund Burke

    3. Dear friends, Could someone tell me where the Confederate Pension Applications for those veterans who filed in Banks County are located? Are they at the courthouse in Homer? At a historical society somewhere? Or have they been transferred to the State Archives in Atlanta? I'd like to confirm their location before driving all over creation looking for them.
