I've added another couple of thousand names to my Georgia Civil War Soldiers Index since my last update last November. The new names are now on line at http://www.researchonline.net/gacw/updates.htm These names are predominantly men who served in Cavalry, Artillery, Militia, and State Troop units who are not included in Henderson's Roster of the Confederate Soldiers of Georgia. My master index now contains approximately 28,000 names that are not found in Henderson's Roster. The Civil War in Georgia is located at http://www.researchonline.net/gacw and you can search the index there. John Rigdon

Looking to connect with any Cameron descendents living in Banks or Franklin County. As far as I have been able to discover, the only Cameron family in Franklin (bef. 1858) and Banks (aft. 1858) was the family of Duncan G. Cameron (born abt. 1795 in Scotland) and his wife Nancy Winters (born abt. 1805 in NC) Duncan and Nancy were married on May 5, 1822 in Orange County, NC. The couple moved to Franklin County before the birth of their first child in 1823 and had at least 9 children there. 1) William A. Cameron (b. 1823), m. Mary Pair in Franklin Co. on Sept 12, 1844. No further information, may have emigrated to Texas. 2) Catharine Cameron, (1826- abt. 1866), m. John Little Ingram in Franklin Co. on Feb 22 1845. Lived in Union Co., GA 3) Theresa Cameron, known as Thursey. (b. 1829) Listed on the 1850 Franklin Co., census as being an idiot. 4) Unknown Male Cameron (b. abt. 1831), probably the Sloan Cameron found enumerated with brother Alvin in Co. K of the 52nd GA Vol. Infantry. D. 1862. 5) Wiley Cameron (1836-1911), m. Sarah. Bur. Naomi Cemetery, Walker Co, GA. 6) Valentine Cameron (1837-1924), m. Nancy Wall. Served in Co. F of the 30th TN Infantry. Bur. Naomi Cemetery, Walker Co., GA 7) Alvin D. Cameron (1838-1863), m. Rebecca. Captured at Vicksburg in 1863. Will probated in Franklin Co. 8) Mary Cameron (b. 1839). No further information. 9) Sarah E. Cameron (1844-1911), m. J.P. Ayers in Franklin Co. on July 27 1865. Bur. Homer Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Banks Co, GA Duncan was listed his profession on the 1850 Franklin Co. census as tailor. He was listed there with a woman named Sarah, who is either a second wife or the proper name of Nancy Winters. (I have been unable to discover which is correct.) They were listed with another child, Thomas T. Cameron (b. 1847), m. Elizabeth. Duncan is not enumerated in the census indexes for GA in 1860. I have not been able to find him in any other states, so he probably died between 1850 and 1860. (Sarah Cameron is enumerated in Franklin Co. in 1870 in a pauper's home. Another indication that Duncan had died previously.) Would love to correspond with anyone who has information on this elusive family. I am sending this message as a public service for those interested. Let it be a "HEAD's UP" for those interested. There is an association called "PURCELL Family of America" they publish a quarterly magazine or Journal. This year during the July and October issues our Franklin Co PURCELLs will be featured. I know this because I am the guilty party who submitted the information to them to publish. They now have a copy of Claude PURCELL's manuscript all the information in my GEDCOM file on PURCELLs and information submitted by others. I have just reviewed the portion concerning our Senator Sanford Parker PURCELL born Carnesville 1902 served in the Legislature 1959-60 etc. so I know those folks will be in the issues mentioned above. I have been a member for about 4 years now and enjoy the Journal and keeping up with family queries etc. Anyone researching PURCELL family in North GA should obtain these issues. You can join the PFA association for $20.00 per year and that pays for the journal. We have already had two issues this year but if you join now you will be assured of the July and October 2001 issues which are the best ones for us to acquire. I don't know the story about previous issues but I can say for sure that in the last 4 years there has been ZERO about our Georgia PURCELLs. So this will be the first articles about us and ours. The majority of info has previously been on the Ohio PURCELLs and VA PURCELLs. Now we are getting the attention we deserve in July and October. So act soon so you will get the July issue which will tell how we arrived in Ga in the 1700's and became what we are today. The Editor of the Journal is Robert H. Purcell, he is also the Treasurer [or was at last time I sent my check to them] so send your check to him at the address below if you are interested. Robert H. Purcell Treasurer, PFA 302 Scot Street Richland WA 99352-2038 Hope this gives you the info you need but if not feel free to ask me questions. Charles MILLER

Several years ago my husband and I attended a Memorial Day Ceremony at the park near the old courthouse honoring the war dead. Is this ceremony still held on Memorial Day? We would like to go again this year and take our grown children with us. My husband's father is one of the WWII dead commemorated on the stone. Tks Lomane

Just a friendly reminder to pass along the good deeds? Have you checked the GenWeb site for the county you live in lately? Do they need help? There is almost always a "needs help" section. Does the site have the addresses for the county court house, library, cemetery addresses, funeral homes, churches, genealogical and/or historical societies, newspapers, or other things of interest? Most of the caretakers of sites don't actually live in that county. All you might have to do is pick up the phone book next to your computer. Have you bought a book and posted yourself as willing to do lookups? Can you run to your local library to do obituary lookups once a month? Hope I'm not lecturing, just meant to be a little reminder.
