Dyar in the book "The Dyar(Dyer) Families" by William Heller Dyar. Robert was Clerk of Court and then Clerk of Superior Court. He had a son, James M. Dyar and James had a son, Hubert Dyar of Homer, Ga. This book is about twent-five years old, so this information may be very outdated. Ray

Thanks for the info. John Clarke Kilpatrick Mason was my GGrandfather. My grandmother was Mary Etta Mason Hill. My name is also Mary Etta. That is a beautiful story about a whole acre of roses. I love that and can relate. Nothing is more beautiful than a rose but an acre of roses is incomprehensible. I grew up in Banks County. My father was Benjamin Clarke Hill, son of Mary Etta Mason and William Crawford Hill, Jr. I have been doing research on both sides and was interested in John Clarke Mason's service record in the Civil War. I have a photograph of him in his uniform. It may have been honorary since I have been unable to locate any info on a Col. John Clarke Kilpatrick Mason. But I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed your "whole acre of roses" - it lifted my heart. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elizabeth H. John Clarke (Kilpatrick) Mason was named for a friend and neighbor. He married Mary Frances Maret. Their daughter, Susannah married William Coleman Haulbrook in Banks Co. and became my grandparents. After several children, being born in Banks county, William Coleman Haulbrook moved his family to Gordon Co. GA. His father, Larkin Haulbrook, wanting to stay near his son soon moved there also. Larkin Haulbrook is buried in the Calhoun city cemetery. William Coleman Haulbrook moved on down to Tift co., leaving two married daughters in Calhoun. John Clark Mason. I believe, was associted with a munitions factory in Athens, GA. I remember one of his records listing him as Private. Perhaps he was one of the many of the servicemen given the honorary title of Colonel following the Civil War. In our family the story is told that his young son, Robert Mason, signed up to go to war to be with his father and to take care of him. In our family he was aways refered to as Colonet Mason. One of my favorite stories about him was that his son-in-law, William Coleman once said "Colonel Mason was not a practical man that he had planted a whole acre in roses!"(How I would love an acre of roses.)
