Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Baldwin/195 Surname: Beauchamp ------------------------- Are you looking for the early Beauchamps in Baldwin Co.? The Beauchamps of Somerset Md. are a well documented family. After the American Revolution, a group of Beauchamps moved from Maryland to Georgia. Littleton Beauchamp and a number of relatives came to Georgia from Somerset, Md. sometime after 1780. Littleton settled in Baldwin County and became a land and slave owner in Capt. Steven's District on Potato Creek, according to surviving tax records in Middgeville, Ga. Records also survive of other Beauchamps who settled in Putnam, Jackson and Montgomery Counties. Littleton Beauchamp and his wife and probably some children were in Baldwin Co., Ga by 1795 when daughter Hetty was born (Butler Co., AL Census 1850). Littleton and his son William are on Baldwin County tax records through 1817. The records for 1818 are missing and in the 1819 records the Beauchamps are missing for they had moved to Henry Co., AL where Littleton died and his estate administered in 1822. Sons William and Green later moved to Barbour Co., AL. where they were both on the Barbour Co., AL census in 1840. Son Laban (my ggggrandfather) moved back into GA and later to FL.
