help please with my martins, thank you. john martin was born about 1797 and he died about 1852. he married mary ____. they had the following children: robert c. martin was born about 1830. charles r. martin was born about 1832 charles worked on the mary b. sessions farm as an overseer. john hardy martin was born about 1834 edward l. martin was born about 1836. joseph martin was born about 1838 winfield martin was born about 1838 possibly the last two boys are twins. i do not know. these names and dates were found in the 1850 census of washington co., ga. john hardy martin was born about 1834 in ___ and he died in 1877 in washington co, ga. he is buried in the boatright-sessions cemetery in tennille , ga. he married mary a. boatright on 1861 in washington co, ga. by mr. john ivy, justice of the peace (book c page 43). she married again to mr. a.g. register after john's death, they married on 6-15-1880 in washington co, ga. and after the marriage they possibly left, they are not found on any census record of the county after that time. mary is the daughter of george franklin boatright sr. and elizabeth sessions boatright and she was born about 1844. george franklin boatright sr. was born about 1816 in washington co, ga and died there on 9-25-1858 and he is the son of george e. boatright and zilpha (polly) roebuck boatright. elizabeth sessions was born on 4-20-1826 and died on 12-7-1896, she is buried in the zeta cemetery in tennille, ga. the cemetery is named after the granddaughter of elizabeth sessions boatright. elizabeth is the daughter of benjamin j. sessions and mary barry lawson. see boatright section for further information. i have samuel boatright (b 1764) and his family for four generations. john hardy martin worked for mr. jared I. irvin as an overseer in 1860 in washington, co. after that he enlisted in the georgia light artillery, 2nd brigade, state forces in february 1862 as a 6th corporal. this unit was incorporated into company d, 59th regiment. john was appointed to the rank of 4th sergeant. they surrendered at appomattox, va. at the home of wilmer and virginia mclean. there is a quote from general lee after he received word from his commands that they could go no further without more help and they had fought to a "frazzle". the quote is "there is nothing left for me to do but go and see general grant, and i would rather die a thousand deaths". ( i just thought this was interesting!) john and mary had the following children: john h. martin george edward martin alice martin fannie martin william martin was born in march 1870. george edward martin was born in washington co, ga. he married matilda jane boutwell and matilda is the daughter of jencey nipper boutwell and steve boutwell. george is described as very tall and quite an imposing man. he carried dimes in his pocket to give to his grandchildren. he had a matched team of white horses for his buggy. he would go off for short trips to play poker or cards and always carried his man, george, with him. george went everywhere he went to make sure he was alright and that he would arrive home safely. matilda jane is described as a good cook. they had the following children: the children are not in birth order. james gordon martin jeff martin lark e martin alice martin maude jane martin carroll harris martin frank martin mary joanna martin ( my grandmother)
