    1. [GABALDWI] New Baldwin List Manager
    2. Crilley
    3. I'm very happy to announce that Marcelle Bridgeman has agreed to be the Baldwin List Manager! She'll be working closely with Eileen Sumner who is the County Coordinator for the Baldwin GAGenWeb page itself....which is a full time job by itself! Marcelle has already made contributions to the data for Baldwin County researchers, and is very knowledgeable about the county. She also has the advantage of living in Baldwin County. With her experience in researching there, I'm sure she'll be able to pass along lots of suggestions. BUT, remember, the List is only as good as its members. There are over 40 of you right now, and you need to speak up and be more active. You'll be getting more members all the time, so never hesitate to repost your queries and families that you're researching. Ask questions about what is available in the County to help you locate your missing puzzle piece, or solve your "brick wall". Even if nobody on the List has anything specific to share about your individual ancestor, they may have some very good leads about what book to look in or how to write for records. Sharing some of the ways that you have made discoveries will help someone else along the way too. Learning more about the Deeds and Land Lottery for Baldwin County is something that lots of people don't really understand. Court Minutes sometimes hold secrets ! Milledgeville early newspaper abstracts have been published and have helped people all over the state! Additionally, all these Gen Connect Boards are now active with Baldwin County. So look through your notes and see if you don't have a will/deed/Bible Record/obit to contribute. And if you need help in doing this....ASK on this list. You'll find that everyone is very, very helpful. http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Baldwin (Query Board) http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinBibl http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinBios http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinDeed http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinObits http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinPens http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinWill And don't forget the Cemeteries. If you have canvassed a Cemetery in Baldwin, by all means contribute even the TINY little portion that you copied down.... Good luck to all of you....and let's get busy sharing!! Virginia

    1. [GABALDWI] 40 Subscribers to this list!
    2. Crilley
    3. There are 40 Subscribers to this List in regular mail mode and 6 in Digest Mode. I've just changed it so that GABALDWI will be the first word in the Subject Line. That way you will KNOW when the message is coming from the List. Several of you have indicated that you would "consider" being the Manager for the List. Please do keep thinking about it. I will be here to walk you through every step....and it really is not a difficult job. BUT, it is such an important one. In several of our West Central Counties, Millie Stewart and Guelda Hay do this service. Maybe some of you recognize their names, as being the authors of some cemetery books, etc. They are both very knowledgeable about the area, but knew very little about computers. Millie jumped right in and is a real pro with her List right now. She has helped so many people in the process too. So please don't be intimidated.....being a List Manager is a wonderful way to contribute to the Genealogy community. You will work closely with Eileen Sumner who does the Baldwin County web page. If you can write e-mail, that is all the Technical Skills you need.... Let me hear from you.....and remember lots more people are getting your queries than you might have first thought!! Virginia Crilley Regional Coordinator - West Central Region GA

    1. Assistance with lost Ga McLemore Family member
    2. My name is Steve Forehand, and I am trying to recover a lost ancester from Baldwin County. Her name was Mrs. Sarah A. McLemore, and she was first discovered on the 1900 GA FED Census as an inmate in Baldwin County. The facility of course was the Georgia State Sanitorium. I wrote the Hospital, now known as Georgia Central State Hospital and ask them to help me with the old hospital records. The medical records dept. stated that the patient/inmate was filed by the county of her or his spouse. In 1900 James Brance McLemore was listed as living with his family (minus his wife) in Colquitte county Ga. This is the county I gave the medical redords dept. G.C.S. hospital could find no records of her stay.....even though I found her as a resident according to the 1900 GA census report. Eventually her family moved to North West Florida ( where I live today) Mrs. Sarah A McLamore was admitted in the Florida State Hospital (Chattahoochee) in Gadsen County FL in the year 1916, Dec. 27th. Sarah stayed here until her death in 1921. The only reason I know her name was Sarah, was because I found her name on her daughter, Florah Lee McLemore Redd's, death certificate. I interviewed a descendant, which was born in 1915 that told me she was locked up for being insane, but he couldn't even produce her name....simply Grandma McLemore. This woman was forgotten and lost in the system, and I wish to correct this problem. If anyone has acess to GA Federal Census Record and could find Mrs. Sarah A. McLemore in the 1900 and 1910 GA reports I would be very thankful. All I have on the 1900 census was very brief and short from another researcher, but no details. If I could produce two census records stating that indeed Sarah was there, then maybe they could find her medical record for me. I do know Sarah was born about 1863 in GA, that she married James Brance McLemore of N.C. Sarah had about 6 children....the first four were born in N.C. the last 2 were born in GA. The Last child born in GA was in 1893...7years later she is listed as an inmate of the Georgia Sanitorium. Thanks so much......Steve Forehand.

    1. The Millers of Milledgeville
    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. According to her death certificate, my great great grandmother, Susan Ann MILLER, was born in Sept of 1826, in Milledgeville. Her parents, according to family papers were Martin and Elizabeth BERRY MILLER. According to family lore Martin had a plantation somewhere outside Milledgeville, and there were 2 daughters, the name of the other girl is unknown. Poor little Susan Ann married in 1841, at the age of 15, Reuben James BULLARD, but they married in Helena Arkansas, with the approval of her guardian, unnamed of course! I have no actual documentation that Susan was from Milledgeville (other than her death cert.) and nothing on her parents. Supposedly her mother, Elizabeth, was an avid Baptist, and I bought the book METHODIST CHURCH RECORDS MILLEDGEVILLE, GA 1811-1876 ,but no mention of Elizabeth. Another interesting family story is that Martin sold his plantation, before the war, and was on his way to Wheeling (W)VA, where Susan Ann and husband Reuben lived, when Martin was murdered, in Kentucky, by his secretary, who was traveling with him, and the money, reportedly a large sum, stolen. I did not find Martin on the 1850 census of Baldwin County (but, he could have sold the property by then...I just don't know) . Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated. And, I'd be happy to look up those pesky Baptists for you, too, in my Milledgeville book. Sandra
