They had a son, James Madison HIGGINS who was born there on 6 March 1816. They (or at least one of their sons, Newton, who married Lucinda SMITH) later moved to the Habersham/White County region. This book will list and briefly describe all Civil War manuscript collections held by organizations in this state. Due to the large number of such organizations, I cannot visit them all. I need a couple of volunteers to help me with Baldwin County. The task involved visiting Special Collections at Georgia College, The Old Capitol Historical Society, and the Baldwin 2000 Museum and checking to see if they have any unpublished Civil War era letters or diaries. After that a brief description of the item is all I need. In most cases this entire process can be completed in an hour or two. All volunteers will be credited for their work in the foreword of the book. This work will be of great importance to historians and genealogist all across the nation. If you would like to help me, please contact me. Regards, David Slay

    1. [GABALDWI] Philip Logan and Hugh Logan
    2. Arnold Logan
    3. Philip Logan, Rev War soldier, born 1760 in NC, died in Feb. 1820 in Baldwin Co., GA. He was also in the war of 1812 as a Georgia volunteer. In 1794 he married Leah Littleton in Warren Co., GA. Need to confirm and/or obtain information on children of this marriage. Benjamin Logan, b. 1796, is the only known child of the marriage but believe Philip D. Logan may have been their son also and there could be other children as well. Hugh Logan who lived in Clarke Co., GA and married Nancy Jennings on 7/5/1801 in Warren Co., GA, may be his son by a first marriage. Don't know name of first wife but he definitely had two daughters (Joanna and Sara) born prior to 1794. Philip was eligible for 2 draws in the 1807 land lottery. He was also eligible for an 1820 land lottery in the 320th GMD, Baldwin Co., as were the orphans of Hugh Logan (Lot Land #269). (Benjamin Logan was appointed the administrator of Philip's estate in 1820). Still seeking confirming/connecting information to link Philip D. Logan to Philip and/or Hugh Logan. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Arnold Logan dslogan@home.com

    2. Laura F. Mills
    3. Hi Jennifer, I married into the Mills family from Orange Co, NY and have not researched this line. My GA research has to do with the Freemans, Patricks. Moulders. Mitchells, and some of their friends, Fort, Pope, Carnes,Morris, Meigs, Woffords (1795-1895) in and around Franklin,Jackson, Stephens, Elbert, Madison, Clarke, Baldwin, and later Cherokee Co. Many of the people I'm researhing were early (1800) doctors in NE Ga and the documentation is quite slim with links to early polictians, War of 1812, later the CSA (have not researched that yet). Lately, I've been looking at the land surveying activities on Ga 1790-1840, and the establishing of Univer. of GA and the Medical School in Augusta. If any of your GA families tie in feel free to write back. Good luck with your Mills family. Laura F. 1. [GABALDWI] John English > Green English prior to 1820
    2. Ginny Walker English
    3. Leonard English was born to William W. English (son of Green English who was the son of John English, Jones County Georgia) and mother, Lavinia Donalson, in 1850 in Georgia. Lavinia and William were married in 1840 in Butts County Georgia. Nancy Benton was born to Hezekiah Benton also in 1850 in Georgia. In the 1860 Monroe County GA census William and Lavinia are listed with their children. Leonard's siblings include: i. JOHN4 ENGLISH, b. 1845. ii. JAMES ENGLISH, b. 1847. iii. C J ENGLISH, b. 1850. v. MARION ENGLISH, b. 1852. vi. NEWTON ENGLISH, b. 1852. vii.THOMAS ENGLISH, b. 1855. (possibly more children?) I have not found a place of marriage for Leonard and Nancy, but do know that as of 1870 in the Forsyth County Georgia census she was still living in the household of her father Hezekiah Benton. Leonard and Nancy's children are: 3. i. CORNELIA CAMELLIA?5 ENGLISH. ii. ELBY ENGLISH, b. May 27, 1887; m. BAMA. iii. OLLIE ENGLISH, m. MCKENZIE. iv. RUBIRL ENGLISH, m. LEATHA. 4. v. WILLIAM DENNIS WILL ENGLISH, b. August 03, 1874, Lebanon Community of Jones County MS; d. 1942. 5. vi. JOHN MILTON ENGLISH, b. May 11, 1876, Columbus, Georgia; d. August 26, 1958, Hattiesburg, Forrest County, Mississippi. Now, it seems funny to me that William was born in Jones County MS, and his younger brother John Milton was born in Columbus Georgia, but this comes from direct descendants (somebody obviously has their thoughts crossed . . . ) John Milton English is my grandfather in law. He died a few months before my husband was born in 1958. In the 1917 WWI records, it shows that he resides in Jones County, Mississippi, but works in MUSCLE SHOALS ALABAMA. He was a teacher by profession, but I don't know if he was teaching at that time. In 1919 he married Lena Pearl Hurst, and the family settled in Jones County MS, later moving to Lamar County. There is a time frame that I can't find William, Leonard, or John Milton on any of the census records that I have access to, i.e. 1880 forward. William died in 1895, I do not have a date of death for Leonard, and John Milton in 1958. The migration of this family would have been from Georgia, through Alabama to Mississippi. I have researched everything I can find in Columbus Muscogee Georgia and find NOTHING so I'm thinking that the mistake on the place of birth is on my father in laws part. He just remembered to tell me today that he thought his daddy (John Milton) had been married before!!!!!!!!! He was a great deal older than his wife, Lena Pearl Hurst, who was born in 1895, so it is very possible that he was married before. Any help you can offer will be GREATLY appreciated. I await anxiously your reply and thank you in advance. Ginny Walker English
