    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. The book was published in 1997, so it is still under copyright.... published in Milledgeville, by Boyd Publishing Co. I bought mine last year from one of the larger online genealogical book companies, like Heritage......I'm sure it's still available It contains all the existing roll records of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Milledgeville, Ga, beginning with 1811 and the last are of 1876...as the name states, they are the roll records, and that's just what they are, although other things are listed as explaination of the comings and goings of the members..ie. married a sinner reason for leaving the church,.....sometimes deaths...no marriages, etc, as they have nothing to do with church membership. Some ministers are listed, some "stewards'', "leaders"....the records are rather hit or miss The church was built in 1809, rebuilt several times, ending at Hancock and Liberty streets in 1913. The original documents are currently housed in the first United Methodist church of Milledgeville. The slaves are listed in the index twice; once, under their own name (given) and again, under their owner's name. 2. My great grandmother was Gillie Myrick of Wilkinson County (adjacent to Baldwin County) who married Luther Lawrence Griffin of Twiggs County. I have a copy of a book written by Victor Myrick. I feel certain it is the same Myrick line. There are some minors errors in it but it gives a great history of the Myricks. Diane Thompson Dixon

    1. [GABALDWI] Sheriff's sale deeds
    2. Crilley
    3. Thanks so much to TreeMother <tonin1@airmail.net> for the great contributions about her ancestors! I wanted to pass along something that I learned about Sheriff's sale. When this sale was recorded in the Deed books, it will be listed under the Sheriff's name....not your ancestor who "lost" the property. In this instance she stated the Sheriff's name, but sometimes this is hard to locate. But if you think your people did own land at one time in a county, but just can't find where they sold it, you might try to search for it under a Sheriff's name. If you see one man's name listed often in the index, he possibly is the Sheriff....so take a look at an actual deed, and it would clarify if he was the Sheriff and the details of the sale. I believe in the deed itself, it will state your ancestor's name as the previous owner. 1. Sheriff's sale. Will be sold, on the first Tuesday in February next, at the court house in Twiggs County the following property...Lot No.31, in the 27th district, Twiggs County, taken as the property of Alexander Rozier, to satisfy Edward Lankford. listed in Twiggs Co. Sheriff's sale Feb. 1812.Land taken from Alexander Rozier to satisfy court order in favor of said Lankford. (Signed Matthew Hodges, Shff. ***This looks like it came from a newspaper abstract. Newspaper abstracts are great to indicate this type of sale....and also the sale of Negroes, as they sometimes even give descriptions and ages and names of the Slaves. Virginia

I do not have a wife for Edmund nor parents or birthplace. After about seven years this is all I have been able to find on him in Georgia. I simply cannot afford the fees of the Georgia Archives. I certainly would appreciate anyone with books on Georgia (Baldwin and Liberty Cos.) to check the index for my missing family. Georgia has tons of material but it is not in our library in Dallas. Thanks to all and to Virginia for all her work on the Baldwin County page and other Georgia sites. 3. Keith, I would suggest that we all post what resources we all have, concerning Baldwin co, ....that we are willing to help others with. How about you Keith? What do you have that might be of help to the rest of us? I only wish I had other resources for here, but all I have is the Methodist book. However, I'm planning more research in county documents, and will add what I find, when I find it. I'll be in DC next week, and who knows what I'll find? What I generally do, after I return home, is to look at the pages I have copied, and then send the other names on the pages to the county site. Many of you have census pages you've copied, pages from a church record of marriages, etc.....what you have on those sheets may hold the key to someone else's research....so, dig out those notebooks full of copies and see what you can find. 3. There are many newspaper excerpts from the Milledgeville papers available, both in book form and on micro fiche, at the LDS....they are by the same author, whose first name is Tad and last escapes me at the minute....but, if you visit your local FHC and do a locality search on the CD of the library holdings at Salt Lake, looking up either Milledgeville or Baldwin County you'll find them listed under newspapers. As fiche only cost a dime each, it's good deal, and reasonable. One little hint to all; we need to change the subject to reflect what our email is about. It makes it much easier when browsing through rootsweb archives to know what the email is actually about. You mention that you didn't know that there was a book on Methodist churches in Milledge....well, I'm here to tell you that there are books on EVERYTHING! You need to periodically check the catalogues of some of the larger genealogical booksellers; most have on line lists that you can browse through. I've ordered many books in this way, and have never had a problem. It's always been fast and safe. If interested, I can "scare up" some of the ones I've used, however GA research is fairly new to me, and most of my own research has been in VA and PA. I believe it is listed on the the Baldwin county site, but have only had 2 people ask for lookups from it. It's strange that some counties in the country are so busy, with many people researching the area, and then ones like Baldwin, which seem the opposite. 1. [GABALDWI] 72 subscribers
    2. Crilley
    3. We have 72 subscribers to the Baldwin List!! So that means that we have quite a bit of interest in Baldwin County. Please ask some questions on this list, and also write about the things that you have already, where you found them....give us some ideas about "how to" research in Baldwin County more effectively. Have any of you used old Baldwin County Newspapers? Don't know if they are on microfilm or not....but it would be so nice to know about these... I believe that Georgia Pioneers published some newspaper abstracts back in 1972. Does anyone have access to these? Anything you have help us with....even one tiny little piece of info may be the very thing that will give someone else a lead to their research. Newspaper Obits are wonderful as they often give the names of married daughters, etc. Put on your thinking cap and pull out your Baldwin files. If we all work on this together, we'll be able to gather so much more!! Virginia

    1. [GABALDWI] New County Coordinator
    2. Crilley
    3. I'm so pleased to announce that we do have a new County Coordinator for Baldwin County: Kathy Selman As you know Eileen Sumner worked hard on the page, and has graciously turned over her materials to Kathy. Marcelle Bridgeman has been managing this list for some time, and we also have another person, Janet Davis, who will be working closely with Kathy on the page itself. BUT, we need all of you on this list to share some of your materials and also to let us know what would be most helpful to you to help you with your research. If you have visited a cemetery in Baldwin, it would be so nice to add your family listings to our pages. We could attach your e-mail to it, and then others would be able to find you as well. There are many, many LDS microfilms for Baldwin, and it would be so wonderful if when you are looking at them, you would also copy down some additional information to share. Do any of you have any histories of the churches in Baldwin County? Many times they have anniversary brochures published or even plates which listed the ministers on the back with a picture of the church on the front. I understand that the Presbyterian Session Minutes were published in Central Georgia Genealogical Society's Quarterly in 1986... I don't know who the author of this was, but usually CGGS will give permission for the material to be used on-line. So please do look through what you have in your files and try to share something with this list. Let's all work together to get more data on-line for Baldwin!! Virginia

If someone has the time, I'd really appreciate it if you'd make a listing of some of the Baldwin families that are mentioned in these Kinsey Papers. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/lenoir.htm >On the NC recent updates - Archives - on Lenoir Co - Kinsey Papers. Their website can be found at: http://www.centralstatehospital.org/ The following websites also have a little historical information about the hospital: http://www.milledgevillega.com/history.htm http://darkspire.org/asylums/central_ga/
