This was north of Milledgeville near what is now the Old Myrick Plantation. It has confused me that before the Revolution was won that our ancestor and his wife, father-in-law and perhaps mother-in-law fled to Warren County, Ga. to escape from the British prison. The older couple stayed in Warren Co.. The younger couple owned land in Washington county. After the Revolution when the Baldwin area was opened, ( I think it was then called the Meriwether District) the children came from Virginia and settled near the Myrick Plantation, and they willed Washington County land to their heirs. I have always wondered if this portion of Baldwin County land was part of Washington County land. Where was the split when the District lines were changed or when their children arrived from Va. after the Rev. if they moved further east. Our ancestor is buried on the old family land, and his grave was marked as a Revolutionary soldier by the DAR in the 1930's. His grave is on the old Parham land, near the Myrick Plantation. It would have been near the river, Oconee or Little River, I cannot tell with the lake as it is today. There must be maps of county line changes in the Archives there but I did not look for them as i didn't know there had been so many changes when I visited the Archives Library. This Washington county land finally changed hands after the whole male part of the family had moved to Meriwether County to claim Lottery land as being orphans of the Rev., and three generations had past before it was willed to some great great grandchildren of the Meriweather County Parham family after the War for Southern Independence. Sorry this is no answer to your question, just more questions, and what and where was the Headright County? Sara Parham --part1_d.adc84b7.2710b0c8_boundary--
In looking up something for someone else, I just discovered that part of Baldwin County (1817-1826) came from Washington County---which was one of the Headright counties. Baldwin County itself was one of the "original" Land Lottery counties...in the Land Lottery of 1805. This area was then divided into smaller counties. Has anyone had any experience in researching the Headright Lands? I assume they would have been on the eastern side of Baldwin, nearest to Washington County I guess this just shows how complicated Land Research can be in Baldwin County!! Virginia
Posted on: Baldwin Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Baldwin/154 Surname: Harty, O'Connor ------------------------- Colleen My father was William James Harty III his father was Anthony Harty and his father was William J. Harty II I have been told all of my life that Flannery O'Connor was a cousin to the Harty's. I know this is of no help but it seems that we may be related at some point.
I am trying to determine the relationship, if any, of Philip Logan, Rev. War soldier/musician, to Philip D. Logan. Philip D. Logan, born about 1787, was in the War of 1812. He enlisted in Milledgeville in 1812 and served in Newnan's Command of Ga. Vols. in Capt. Tomlinson Fort's Company of Ga. Vols. under command of Lt. Abram B. Fannin from 6/24/1812 to 10/19/1812. The Co. Muster Roll shows "Roll dated Newhope Oct. 19, 1812." Was there a town of Newhope or was it a G.M.D.? If Newhope was a town, would like to know where it was located. He then served in Capt. Thomas' Co., Art'y., Ga. Militia, in Capt. Jett Thomas' Company of Ga. Vol. Artillery from 8/20/1813 to 3/14/1814. Philip Logan was born in 1760 in N. C. He enlisted in 1777 and served as a musician/fifer in the 4th Regiment of the Continental Line North Carolina for 3 years. He received bounty land in Washington Co., Ga., in 1784, warrant #1283. In 1818 he received a pension while living in Baldwin Co., Ga., in Capt. Marshall's District. He was eligible for 2 land lottery draws in 1820. He also died in early 1820. Believe Philip is Philip D.'s father but have not been able to find verifying documentation. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Arnold Logan in TX
Could someone please give me the mailing address for the Central State Hospital? Thanks in advance for any help. Beth

Jasper County Deed Book, May 11, 1808, page 22, records stock marker applications for Christopher Baker and James Baker. Baldwin County Marriages, 1806-1850, records Charles Baker and Ceclia Clark married 1 Aug 1815 and Rev John W. Baker and Charlotte W. Shissard married 16 Feb 1837. My Baker Family also includes the Loyall Family of Jasper and Baldwin County. There are connections among the Talmadges, Terrells and Bakers, early inhabitants of the area between Milledgeville and Monticello. I would appreciate ANY clues that would help identify these Bakers and locate their home place, especially James and Christopher Baker of the 1808 reference. Thank you! Elizabeth Baker

Rebecca, Thanks so very much for this information. Interestingly, I've noticed that numerous families chose the heroic name Lafayette when naming their children. In our case, Lafayette Carrington MOORE, b. 22 Sept 1847, Hancock Co Georgia. Eldest son of Ransom Moore and Narcissa Frances CLARK.. who was born in Milledgeville.
