Margie Daniels has started this new SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-list..... read below her description of its purpose. >>>>I have started a new mail list. My ancestors came from VA>NC>SC>GA>AL, I felt a list was needed for those that are trying to track their ancestors between those states without having to be on a zillion mail lists. Hopefully this list will get subcribers that will have reference material and will be able to help. I will start out by saying I have the Georgia Black Books both volumns, I also have Clarke County Alabama histor book, A lot of information on Barbour county, Al. (Barbour has loads of this information posted) I have many FTW CD's also the Confederate veteran newsarticles. These newspapers are being transcribed and I am putting them on the www.rootsweb.com/~ganews.htm web site. SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-L-request@rootsweb.com that contains the word subscribe and nothing else. If they prefer digest mode, they should send the command instead to SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-D-request@rootsweb.com. To unsubscribe, they should send the command "unsubscribe" to SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-L-request@rootsweb.com (if in mail mode) or SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-D-request@rootsweb.com (if in digest mode.) To post to both SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-L and SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-D, messages should be sent to SOUTHEAST-PIONEERS-L@rootsweb.com. Messages sent there will appear both places. Virginia

Posted on: Baldwin Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ga/Baldwin/179 Surname: Ennis ------------------------- I am a descendant of Charles Ennis and Elinor Morman of Baldwin County and have a book of Ennis Genealogy (given to me by my mother) that goes from present day all the way back to E. Nathanial Ennis Who was born about 1755 and was from North Carolina. Anyway about your inquiry, the book shows that Charles was born around 1800 in Hancock county. There is no record of his mother's name but E. Nathanial Ennis was married twice and Charles was presumably from his first marriage. He served as sheriff of Baldwin Co. for a number of years. Charles married Elinor Morman on Sept. 18, 1818. Elinor was from Wilkinson County, however there is no record of her parents name. You may already have the book, but if you don't I would be glad to look up more info. for you. I am curious which Ennis line you come from? My grandfather was Erasmus Minor Ennis Jr. One of Charles's sons Pleasant M. Ennis would have been my g-g-g grandfather. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to. Hope to hear from you.

Posted on: Baldwin Co. Ga Obituaries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/BaldwinObits/17 Surname: Jackson, Stovall, Armstrong, Hilsman, deGraffenried, Whitehead ------------------------- The Albany Herald, Friday January 22, 1915 "Mrs. Adelaide E. Jackson Albany's Oldest Resident, Died Yesterday Afternoon" "The death of a community's oldest resident --oldest in years or in the length of time spent among its citizenship--is particularly sad and Albany was therefore grieved in a peculiar way yesterday afternoon when it became known that Mrs. Adelaide E. Jackson had passed away. For Mrs. Jackson was not only Albany's oldest resident, but she was probably the oldest white person in the community. Had she lived until the 19th of June she would have celebrated her 88th birthday, and she has made her home in Albany almost since the time when Albany had it's beginning. Mrs. Jackson's death came unexpectedly. She had suffered from the effects of a cold for several days, but it did not occasion alarm till Wednesday, when it became evident that her condition was more serious than was at first realized. Still, the community was unprepared for the announcement of her death. News of which became current shortly beofr 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Jackson who before her marriage was Miss Adelaide Eloise Stovall lived an eventful life. She was born June 19, 1827 at Milledgeville, where on November 1, 1842 she married the late John Jackson, who was prominently identified with the development of Albany before and after the Civil War. When he went to Milledgville to claim his bride there was no railroad ub this section and after their marriage the young couple made the long journey to Albany in Judge Jackson's carriage, and over roads which lacked a great deal of being as we know them nowadays. Judge and Mrs. Jackson, in those days when Albany was young, lived in a home they built opposite the site of the present Presbyterian church on Jackson street, and a fine old cedar tree which still stands in front of the residence of Mr. Janie Mayo was planted as a sapling my Mrs. Jackson's own hands nearly seventy years ago. Subsequently, Judge Jackson, built the splendid colonial home on the southeast corner of Pine and Jefferson streets, where the rest of their life was spent. Judge Jackson died many years ago but Mrs. Jacskon continued to live at the old home place whose beloved premises she had not left for a number of years prior to her death. The beloved woman was full of wonderfully intersting reminiscences of the Albany of long ago. Her mental faculties were unimpaired and she remembered with distinctness events of this city's and secions early history. Though she did not leave her home, she received many visitors, and these found her a rarely entertaining hostess. Mrs. Jacskon made her home with one of her daughters, Mrs. Cena J. Whitehead and three other daughters reside in Albany. Mrs. J. W. Armstrong, Mrs. Rosa J. Hilsman and Mrs. J. R. deGraffenried. There are twenty two grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren, most of whom live in this community. Her oldest child Joseph Jackson, died several years ago. When it became know yesterday afternoon that Mrs. Jackson had been claimed by death, ther were many expressions of the sadness which the announcement occasioned. To all the older residents of the communty she was personally known and it was inevitable because of her unique position in the life of the city, that many newcomers to whom she was a comparative stranger, should feel a sense of bereavement in her death. The funeral will be held tomorrow morning at the residence, interment following in Oakview Cemetery, Rev. Lamar Sims will be the officiating clergyman. The honorary pallbearers will be Joseph Ehrlich, J.. S. Davis, J. M. Tift, R. A. Tarver, N. H. Tarver, S. B. Brown, V. C. Rust and C. J. Whitehead. The following________? of the deceased will be Active pallbearers; O. A. Armstrong, J W. Armstrong,Jr. Richard F. Armstrong, John J. Hilsman, P. L. Hilsman Jr. Stovall Graffenried and John R. Whitehead."
