Posted on: Baldwin Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Baldwin/10187 Surname: Miller, Williams ------------------------- I am searching for records on my grandmother, Annie Virginia Williams Miller. I think that she may have died in the State Hospital at Milledgeville. She was married to Benjamin Ellsberry Miller, they lived in Norman Park, Colquitt Co., Ga. Benjamin died in 1928. We are unsure if Annie went to the hospital before or after his death. I have been unable to find a death certificate for Annie in the 1930's or 1940's. This makes me wonder if she died in the 50's perhaps. We know that she was born in Ideal, Macon Co., Ga about 1875. I believe she may have gone to the hospital before Benjamins death. I have his death certificate, and as there is little information about him due to no family members giving the information I am guessing that she may have been a patient already. Any suggestions on where to go from here are appreciated. Thank you, Braxton L Garris

Hello: Would anyone know if there was a census taken for 1810, and if so, if someone has easy access to it? If not, is there someone who might know if there were tax lists kept for that year, and where I could write, etc. to find out if my relative (POOL) was on it? Thanks for any advice. Leslie Hill

In his Civil War enlistment papers from Fla. he stated in May 1864 he was 19 years of age and born in Milledgeville Ga. Does any one have any record of a Woodward family in Baldwin Co. in 1845/50. Ruth, I am interested in Seaborn, the attorney and his dealings with Thomas Carnes. I suspect he was Thomas's attorney for GA land dealings etc. More importantly for my research I'm interested is Seaborn's association with my Benjamin, Dr Henry, Joel and Frederick Freeman lines. James W. Jones as an editor for the Augusta Chronicle and was the best man in Dr Henry Freeman's wedding, 11 Jan 1820, to Pamelia F. Cook, d/o George Cook, attorney in Elbert Co. Could this be your James/Celia? FYI, Henry was born 16 Dec 1795, d 13 Dec 1862 in Franklin Co. My families were in and around Franklin, Clarke, Jackson, Baldwin, Madison, Hancock Co.. Another Jones that I have been interested in is Dudley (and wife Clarissa) Jones, Franklin Co at the same time as Henry. Dudley was a patient of Henry's and after his death I think Henry's family lived next door. Henry names a daughter Clarissa Louisa Freeman. All are in the Carnesville, Franklin Co GA area. The series of books "Men of Mark in Georgia" by William J. Northern there is a bio of Seaborn Jones, Vol 2 pg 236-242 and there is a photo. I haven't gotten the correct volume yet as I have to order things through Interlibrary loan. Other Jones listed are: Noble, v.1 pg 195-207, Noble W., v. 1 pg 208-218 George, v. 2 342-344, James, v. 2 pg 360-361, John, v. 2 pg. 128-129, David Rumph, v.3, pg 538-542, Charles Colcock Jr, vol 3 p 437-463, Samuel Porter, v. 5 pg 373-376, Enoch Callaway, v,7 pg 311-314, Note that Seaborn, John, James and George are all listed in the same volume. Perhaps they are related. I hope to hear from you. Laura Freeman Mills lfmills@ucdavis.edu cc: to the lists in case this helps others >Posted on: Baldwin Co. Beauchamp was My g-Grandfather. What I need is information on him. My Aunt Mary told me that she remembered going to Matthew's funeral in Alabama . She said a door flew off and hit him in the back. His daughter in Law Zoe was also injuried but she didn't die then. she suffered for a few years from the house falling on her and later died. Posted on: Baldwin Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Baldwin/195 Surname: Beauchamp ------------------------- Are you looking for the early Beauchamps in Baldwin Co.? The Beauchamps of Somerset Md. are a well documented family. After the American Revolution, a group of Beauchamps moved from Maryland to Georgia. Littleton Beauchamp and a number of relatives came to Georgia from Somerset, Md. sometime after 1780. Littleton settled in Baldwin County and became a land and slave owner in Capt. Steven's District on Potato Creek, according to surviving tax records in Middgeville, Ga. Records also survive of other Beauchamps who settled in Putnam, Jackson and Montgomery Counties. Littleton Beauchamp and his wife and probably some children were in Baldwin Co., Ga by 1795 when daughter Hetty was born (Butler Co., AL Census 1850). Littleton and his son William are on Baldwin County tax records through 1817. The records for 1818 are missing and in the 1819 records the Beauchamps are missing for they had moved to Henry Co., AL where Littleton died and his estate administered in 1822. Sons William and Green later moved to Barbour Co., AL. where they were both on the Barbour Co., AL census in 1840. Son Laban (my ggggrandfather) moved back into GA and later to FL.

Posted on: Baldwin Co. Ga Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ga/Baldwin/192 Surname: Ennis, Reynolds, Pound, Waller, Tompkins, ETC ------------------------- Alice, In response to your query, it is possible that there is a link to the Ennis in Johnson County. Charles and Elinor Moman Ennis had 14 children, including a Thaddeus Ennis, who I believe moved to Johnson County. Johnson, Washington, Hancock and Baldwin counties are very close to each other. This is pure speculation, but I do know that Thaddeus had a son named Erasmus James and I am sure had other children. Have you checked census records for Johnson County? Let me know if I can help, as I am trying to reconstruct records of the Ennis Family in the early 19th century. Judy
If you will go to this link, you will find information on the licening of early Georgia physicians. http://www.georgiaresearch.com/ This is the home page of the Georgia Research Consortium and has lots of good information. I don't know if your Ennis line is the same as my husbands but I wonder if it has anything about Rufus Ennis born in Laurens or Johnson Co. Ga. abt. 1871. He was the son of John M. Ennis who married Celia Hutcheson Jan. 12, 1867 in Johnson Co. We are trying to trace my husbands family Ennis line and do not have much information at this time. Thank you for any information Alice Knipp Garnto
I know the Medical College of GA has been around forever. I know it has been in Augusta since the 1800's, but not sure when. I believe Emory is a Medical College as well. Were there even medical schools in GA then? My thought is that in those days many docs learned by studying books, apprenticing, etc. It was nothing then like today. Martha Kendall Holmes
Dr. Allen Jefferson AUSTIN and Dr. Laban Turk AUSTIN, Sr. would have most likely attended medical school in GA between 1820 and 1870. Does anyone know what medical schools were in existence in GA during those years? Thanks for your help. Bob
