    1. [GABACON] Lost Colony Symposium on DNA and Research
    2. Noles, Robert B.
    3. Hi Folks, Descendants of the Wiregrass Georgia Pioneers may be interested in the new Lost Colony Project. The Lost Colony Center for Science and Research is attempting to resolve the long-standing mystery of whether or not the colonists survived and were assimilated into the indigenous population, or whether they perished. Added to the basic mystery are little sidebar mysteries that revolve around the area shipwrecks, sailors involved in a mutiny, the forts, expeditions, and more. This truly has all the makings of a great mystery, including the early murder of one of the colonists. This project is one of mammoth proportions. Roberta J. Estes, Director of DNA Research for the Lost Colony Center has compiled a list of "surnames of interest" from multiple sources. So far, the list of surnames includes the Lost Colony Roster plus a list of names that the Lost Colony Center refers to as the "Wanted Dead or Alive" list. This list was compiled from doing good old genealogy work using deeds and other early documents. Specifically, these are the names of families and neighbors of those who eventually obtained land grants to the land that was originally home to the indigenous villages. If the colonists survived, they were believed to be integrated into one or more of these villages. Roberta Estes will be adding more names to the list from other groups that have oral history or other historical reason to think they might be descended from the Lost Colonists. The initial list of surnames is posted below. If you think, your Wiregrass Georgia ancestors may have included descendants from the indigenous villages in Eastern North Carolina from the 17th and 18th centuries, you may be interested in looking into the Lost Colony Project. If one or more of the surnames posted below are of interest to you, Roberta Estes would like to hear from you. The Lost Colony Project is looking for the primary researchers for each family name involved. Roberta is looking for a lead person for each surname who will do things like post family messages for a particular family and help find descendants, documentation and resources. Also, if you know of family archival web sites for any of these family names, please let Roberta know. Plans for a Lost Colony Symposium to be held in North Carolina Sept 7-9 have been finalized. If you are interested in the Lost Colony DNA project, or the Lost Colony, or the history of Eastern North Carolina, the Symposium will hold information you'll appreciate. There are also optional Field Trips after the Symposium. The flyer for the Lost Colony Symposium which includes the agenda and registration information is at: <http://www.lost-colony.com/DNAsymposium.html>http://www.lost-colony.com/DNAsymposium.html. By the way, the credit card link for registration is still under construction, but you can still register for the Symposium by sending a check. They lived in Taylortown. I'm look for a death date's does anyone have access to any of the cemetery books or vital records. He died before 1897. and is buried in the Methodist Campground Cemetery. Did Taylortown have a newspaper that would have an obituary for that time frame? ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
