    3. I am not related. I would suggest you go to the Archives just south of Atlanta. We found documents there with signatures of my 3 great and 4 great grandfather's in regards to land in Wilkes Co they received for service in Rev War. I already had the signature of my 3 great grandfather from his will which Morgan Co., Ga. had in his estate file. The will signature just gave me proof that it was the same Joseph Scott. Good luck. That is all I know about him & would like to find anyone who is descended from him. I am in the Daughters of the American Revolution in Oconee County, Georgia and will need to reprove his service, so the DAR can place a tombstone on his grave.

    1. [GA-VETERANS] Military research at the National Archives
    2. Kelley Bevis
    3. Hello. My name is Kelley -- I recently completed my Masters degree and am going to law school this fall here in Washington, D.C. School is expensive and I could use some extra money to pay for tuition and loans, so I am offering to do military research at the National Archives (service files, pension files, etc). Generally, a request for this kind of information takes the Archives several months, at a minimum, to process. I can retrieve them much faster and also give you someone to interact with instead of a government form. My fees are reasonable, intended to compensate me for my time, printing costs and postage for what I'll send back to you. The Archives offers extended hours once a month, so I would be doing research over the course of three days each month, and I am more than happy to send you a schedule. If you are interested, please just email me at texlabooks@gmail.com Take care. Kelley

    3. Hazel, I have done limited research on the spies on the Georgia and Creek Indian frontier during the period 1811 to 1815. They were mainly responsible for reporting back where the Indians were and what they were doing. The source I have used most is the Georgia Executive Department Minutes. Those have entries for pay warrants issued to people by the government, including spies. I have not personally worked with the records from around 1789, so it may be hit-or-miss when it comes to finding something. The Executive Minutes are recorded chronologically, so you would go to somewhere around July 18, 1789, and see if a pay warrant was issued. The best records for figuring out if someone did something for the government are those that identify payments for services rendered. For better help locating specific records, you should ask the Georgia Archives staff. It is definitely worth looking in Georgia Military Affairs for Robert Shipley. You may also try Gordon Burns Smith's four-volume series "History of the Georgia Militia, 1783-1861." Both are indexed. Paul K.
