    2. Nancy
    3. Hi RoseMary, below is the text of a Confederate Oath of Allegiance for an Alabama soldier. I've found three and the wording is a little different for each. Does anyone know if it varied from state to state? Seems as though they should all be the same, doesn't it? Nancy Oath of Allegiance for Confederate Soldier, Jeptha Edwards, of Alabama: "United States of America, I, Jeptha Edwards of the County of DeKalb, Ala., do solemnly swear, in presence of Almighty God, that I will henceforth faithfully support, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and the Union of the States thereunder; and that I will, in like manner, abide by and faithfully support all laws and proclamations which have been made during the existing rebellion with reference to the emancipation of slaves; So help me God. Jeptha Edwards. Subscribed and sworn before me, at Fort Delaware, this 19th day of June, A.D. 1865. Geo. H. Ahl, Capt. & A.A.G."
