    3. I have a problem because you have to 'join' before you can access the data...I don't want my e-mail address on any more SPAM listings. besides this Password thing has gotten all out of hand, and I can't remember which is which... If you have something you want to share, just put it up so folks can get it with the least amount of trouble... >From: "The Smith Family" <barben@gnat.net> >Reply-To: "The Smith Family" <barben@gnat.net> >To: GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: [GA-Roots] Fw: [GABULLOC] Find-a-Grave >Date: Sat, 20 Mar 2004 02:01:03 -0600 > > > > > > Hi, > > > > Check out the online virtual cemetery at the Find-a-Grave site at: > > > > http://www.findagrave.com/. > > > > It's a great help in doing genealogy. > > > > Thanks > > > > > > > > ============================== > Gain access to over two billion names including the new Immigration > > Collection with an Ancestry.com free trial. 3. Contrary to the myths, very few spammer’s lists are obtained from “membership” in reliable sites. Most are generated by computer programs. However before signing up on any website check their privacy policy and if they do sell lists don’t “join”. I have been a member of findagrave for many years using a unique identifier and have not received the first spam from this membership. Though findagrave I’ve had several emails from relatives I’ve never known before and been able to share much genealogical info which I otherwise would not have had. Findagrave is fully searchable by name, state, cemetery and other parameters, something I haven’t found on any other site. Also pictures can be posted with a listing, something else I haven’t found on any other site. As far as passwords go, I use only four, two of which are stored in my computer for automatic access and two of which only I know. Two are needed in each category because of the different password requirements of different sites. To me cookies are a FAR greater privacy threat. I have my browser set not to accept any cookie without first asking me and to not accept ANY third party cookie nor any cookie from a site without a privacy policy. If a site requires a cookie to visit, I just don’t visit. Many cookies not only transmit your address back to the originator but are also “spies” transmitting all your “surfing” back to the originator. Please pardon me for being a bit off subject, this is offered only in respective rebuttal to a comment about what I consider to be an excellent genealogical site.
