They went to Tallapoosa County where they had relatives. While there, Joseph learned that the Indians had signed a treaty to give up the territory which was about 50 miles to the south. so with the help of his wife and 5 children he packed all their possessions onto a wagon and moved to the newly formed Russell county. He and his sons cleared the land and built their first home in Russell county. Two acres of this land was sold five years later to the members of the Unrion Church so that the chruch would not have to move. 1840 Census: Meriwether County, GA p. 113 Dudley, Joseph M. 2 0 2 0 0 1 F. 1 1 1 0 0 1 1850 Census: Russell county, AL taken Jan. 17, 1851 by John W.
