Hi Jeanie, I'm using your message to give a bit of elaboration on the Georgia Land Lotteries. There were a total of six lotteries, with irregularities and inaccuracies in the recording of data in each. The book that I have is considered the only truly authentic list of grants to Revolutionary War Soldiers. ONLY THE THIRD (1820), FIFTH (1827) AND SIXTH (1832) LOTTERIES RECOGNIZED THE VETERANS AND GAVE PREFERENTIAL CONSIDERATION TO THEM. Any VETERAN could have registered in any of the six lotteries but would have done so in the first, second and fourth lotteries as just a resident of the state. All six lotteries were open to anyone with established residency in eorgia, - the only requirement being the 1 year residency for the first lottery and 3 years residency for the other five lotteries. So if you ask me for a lookup from this book, remember that this only includes veterans. If you are simply looking for ANY land lottery grants your family might have won, I'll need to check for that information at the archives. REMEMBER that your veteran might have acquired land as a civilian in the first or second lottery. Also keep in mind that the third, fifth and sixth lotteries, while favoring veterans, were still open to everyone with residency. Now Jeanie, - no. COL. John Blanton was not listed in this book, but I'll be glad to check for him in the all the lotteries if you'd like. Please send me all possible names, and if you have any counties for them let me know.
