Looking for information on Silas TANNER b 1844 in Cherokee Co., AL. Son of John TANNER and Rona. In 1860 Silas married Sarah Adeline JOHNSON in Polk Co., GA. There children were Frank N., b 1861, John Thomas b 1862, Fannie b 1867, Ben b 1870, William b 1872 and Samuel b 1875. Silas is reported to have died October 04, 1875. I do not know where. In 1864, Silas joined the Union Army, 1st Alabama Cavalry, in Rome, GA but deserted after 2 months. We have not located him in 1870. In 1896, Sarah Adeline filed for a Union widow's pension in Parker Co, TX which was denied due to Silas' status as a deserter. Signing the application for pension and verifying as to who Sarah was were Charley and Fannie Lester who may be the daughter and son-in-law of Sarah. Sarah next shows up in Calhoun Co, AL on the 1900 census. Sarah may have been the daughter of Robert Andrew Johnson of Etowah Co., AL. Silas had many family connections to GA. Is anyone researching this family? Does anyone know where Silas died?
