Pat, Did you know there was a John A. White Park in Atlanta? I remember it from when I was a child. Seems like it's on the west side of Atlanta. May not have anything to do with your John White, but I thought it was an odd coincidence. Judy In Newnan
Thanks Judy, I'll check it out but I doubt if it is the same John A. He moved to Carroll Co. after the war and then to AL. Pat & Judy: This is from Franklin Garrett's book - Atlanta and its Environs (1880's to 1930's) "On January 5, 1924 a 25 year old real estate salesman named John A. White took his seat in city council as councilman from the Fourth Ward succeeding C. L. Ashley. Thirty years later, a well known insurance man of 35, he remains in council, thereby setting a record for the longest consecutive period any man has ever been a member of that body. He has served under five different mayors and on virtually every council committee. The John A. White Park in Cascade Heights section was named in his honor. Since the end of WWII, Mr. White now councilman from the Fifth Ward, has been been particularly active in the city's street lighting and slum clearance programs."
