In 1851,Samuel Curtright and two others incorporated the county's first steam-powered mill, which planed lumber,grist,flour,and saw mills dotted the countryside,with communities springing up around them as trade developed. Factories also began to appear. Troup Factory,was built in 1847 on Flat Shoals Creek in the southern part of the County.
