Can anyone tell me where "Oregon District" of Cobb County in 1860 would have been located?? Like, was it near Marietta, or close to another County; Bartow or Cherokee?? I'm totally stuck on my gg grandfather, Andrew James or James Andrew LENOX born Dec. 1861 Cobb County. It has been said that his (Andrew's) father died before he was born. After looking through most of the Civil War Roster's I can only find two LENOX's from Cobb County; William T. and James E. James died in Jan 1862 (1 month after my James was born) and William died in Dec. 1864. Both while serving in the War. (Are they siblings, or is William, James' father)?? In 1860 I find a J.A and M.J LENOX living in Oregon District. He is 22 and she is 17. The initials fit, as Andrew's mother was a Martha (Mattie). James was head of household and there is a BOYD family living with them. Relatives???? Due to the Courthouse destruction I can find no marriage for my LENOX family and therefore do not know my Martha's maiden name. I cant find Martha and son James anywhere in 1870 but she married John E DUDLEY in Bartow County 1872 and is listed as Mattie LENICKS. Any help or advise would be GREATLY appreciated.
