Go to Rootsweb.com and the to Mailing Lists and then to the States and Counties you are interested in and subscribe from there. The US Gen web is also an excellent place to look for areas of the country that you are interested in. I've read emails where family line info was sent to others to help in their research and were surprised to find that it has been added to those people's on Ancestry. There's wrong info in Ancestry now on a brother in law of mine which now will be sold and taken for gospel. There's no way I can contact the person who put it there. Their email address is now obsolete. The majority of people who put their information on Rootsweb did so thinking it was safe and would never be sold. I'm very disappointed in Rootsweb for letting our information be sold. Some people will remove theirs, but there's so many more who may not see these notices and after May won't be allowed to remove it. I don't object to the sharing of information. I do to it being sold when everyone thought it wouldn't be. I object to some of my ancestors being 'sealed' into the morman faith after their death - nothing I can do about that, I guess, but there's a Higher Power that will some day. Hello I need the name (s) of any genealogy lists or websites for Arkansas and Oklahoma and Texas so that I can subscribe and start some research there. Thanks for the help. ray
Jeanette, I'm the person who authored the message you forwarded to GA-Roots; I originally sent it out to only the lists I administer. However, I'm glad to see that it's making the rounds of various other lists, because I believe it's a message that everyone who has contributed a family tree to Ancestry should know about. What has happened with the way in which Ancestry conducts its business is very disheartening. But it doesn't really surprise me, I'd suspected something like this would happen for some time. There are other sites of the same kind cropping up that promise they will always be free, but how are we to know this is true? The only good news, I suppose, is that the Archives & History Depts. of the various states (and districts in other countries) are placing more and more material online, available to everyone. And there are many libraries who place a lot of valuable information online. We can only hope these trends continue. Also, when I post records for my various names on the 'Records Pages' of my website, I always try to include the records of all of those surnames, not just the people who I know to be in my family. Thanks to Jeanette for alerting us to the changes in Ancestry.Com. The commercialization of personal history records is a two edged sword. Does this mean any personal information we may have sent them will now be under the copyright and sole ownership of One World Preview? What about research I did and my cousin sent to Ancestry.Com? How does this affect GA-ROOTS-L and rootsweb.com? Yes, I know someone has to pay. That is not the most basic concern. The sale and control of personal information which was never intended to be commercialized leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It would be more acceptable if they charge for their site but do not think they can copyright and restrict usage of one's personal family tree data. Thanks again. I am looking in Milledgeville or Baldwin County to find a place called Logan's Bluff. Does anyone have any information concerning where it was or is located? Understand there may have been an old mill around there in the early 1800s. Any help finding the location will be appreciated.

You sure have a lot of familiar names, but I cannot connect. Have a Philip Bailey b. ca. 1770 who had sons John and Thomas b. 1800-1810 in Ga., and son Bryan Bailey b. 1806 in Ga. Also had daughter Lovecey who sometimes called Louisa b. ca. 1793 in NC. No record of Philip or Lovecey in NC I can find. Also have a William living next to my Philip in 1818 Twiggs County, Ga. who the Ga. Archives archivist says is probably related to Philip. Philip moved from Twiggs to Houston County, Ga. late 1820's and to Randolph County, Ga. late 1830's. Probably died in Randolph between 1840 and 1850. Bryan moved to Winn Parish, La. ca. 1857 and Lovecey who married second William Castleberry moved to Calhoun County, Fla. for 1850 census. A James Bailey was also in Houston County ca. 1830. I any of these names help, let me know. ----- Original Message ----- From: <GMAW706@aol.com> To: <GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 30, 2004 11:55 AM Subject: [GA-Roots] BAILEYS IN WALKER COUNTY,GEORGIA > I am looking for anyone that is researching my BAILEY line.
