    3. Hi... I am seeking information on Ealey (Ealie, Eally) Thompson who was born 30 Oct 1882 in Charlton Co, GA.....he married Arizona (Arzona) Crawford in 1903 in Charlton Co, GA....I believe that Arizona is the daughter of John J and Caroline Yarbrough Crawford....and she was born in Apr 1887 in Charlton Co, GA....could soomeone help me figure out when they died? I somehow cannot find them in the SSDI or GA death index....did they move to FL and possibly die there???? They had from what I discovered in the 1920 census for Charlton Co, GA, they had 7 children, Weston (or Veston), Bruce, Roy, Carl, Clavil(?), Maruce (?), and Ethel....and they were in the twnship/city of Toledo #1545.... For the census, is there still a Toledo in 1930..if not what would it be called in 1930?????? I would appreciate any information on this family.....when they were born, died, marriage info....where they died....did they move to FL before 1930??? Anything would be great.... Thank you... 1. Index To GA 1867-1868 Returns Of Qualified Voters & Registration Oath Books (White) (c.)1995
    2. This nice thick volume compiled by John David BRANDENBERG and Rita Binkley WORTHY and published by the R. J. TAYLOR Jr. Foundation cite name of individuals and the pertinent volumes and pages to look for whom were qualified voters and their registered oaths after the war. For instance: DENTON, James G. lists 126:22 where to find his name as a qualified voter and then there is the 236:83 to find his registered oath. All of the DENTON are on page 127 in the book mentioned in the subject line above. COOPER is listed on page 103 and 104. BOSTIC, BOSTICK and BOSTWICK is found on page 046. This book and the records that it cites give one some idea of whom is still in GA between 1860 and 1870. If you find that your ancestor did survive the war and did not show up in the 1870 census and he did not swear out an oath upon return to GA then he may have made his oath somewhere else.

    1. Re: Removing info from websites
    2. I was advised by a website that only the submitter could remove the info. When I was a novice, I mistakenly gave an acquaintance info from my files which included living relatives. I later asked her to please remove them. She promised not to post the info but she will NOT remove or discard it. I can only hope that this person will remember my request not to give it out when she decides to share her files. She is most generous with helping folks and I know sooner or later the info will surface. What can I say? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

OREM, UTAH -- Genealogical data company Ancestry.com completed a $33.2 million second round of financing Monday, funds that Ancestry will use to strengthen its online services. The company has 1,700 searchable databases available on the World Wide Web, providing information on 276 million individuals to 90,000 subscribers. Orem-based Ancestry.com is an important player in the market for genealogy-related services and products. 2. Sherry, I just checked Ancestry.com and it does say at the bottom of their page: Copyright © 1998-2004, MyFamily.com Inc So, yes, all of these websites (and the software) is owned by one parent company...My Family.com. Genealogy.com/My Family.com is owned by the software company that produces Family Tree Maker. Family Tree Maker has been selling submitted family data for many years. They bundle these trees and sell them with the software, at a premium. Ancestry.com is simply jumping on the same bandwagon. Anyone who submits information to these companies will (eventually) find their information being sold to others. I suggest you read the disclaimers before submitting your information to them. I also believe genealogy begins with your grandparents, so your parents name and those of your children should never be included. These companies are no worse than the individuals submitting the information, just richer. Gale

The dollar signs ($$$$$) are the only thing they see. > "The dollar signs ($$$$$) are the only thing they see". That, and egotistical greed, regardless of correct content, simply the need to be first whether accurate or inaccurate.....doesn't seem to matter, also doesn't seem to matter if individuals are living or dead. Someone posted my husband's name, address, and phone number in their data, that website is no longer online. My unsourced data was submitted to LDS by an individual (be happy I didn't use the word that came to mind), who was asked not to publish. It's on CDs, and listed multiple times. Everytime something new is added to the data it's listed again, and to prove that, I posted some documented data, that I otherwise would not have done, only to see when I'd find it on LDS. It wasn't very long before it showed up, on those same CDs. I'm told that these records were also submitted to Ancestry, and I wouldn't know, because I don't and won't pay for the service. Now I notice that some of the other LDS records show no submitter's name or number, only that it was submitted by a church member. Recently received a copied, forwarded document, by the aforesaid "individual" giving me credit for surname research. I don't want my name associated with any data that I did not personally submit, and after four more years of extensive research for said family, now makes much of what is selling on LDS CDs of no consequence, because it is wrong. That's the real heartbreaker, all those poor naive' researchers who will blindly believe what they read, without researching for themselves. This is my last say on the subject, except that it's all very disappointing. Sherry tybeetide@aol.com

To use ancestry.com free service for the 1930 ancestry.com census you have to visit their FHC (Family History Center). They have an agreement worked out with them. This service is available for no fee to the users who use their computers at the LDS Library (FHC) in our area, Mesa, Arizona. I called the FHC and inquired as to this service. Some other areas may charge for use of their computers. They do not in Mesa. The only thing they charge for (FHC) is 10 cents a copy to print out any pages you might want. However, you can take your own disk to save information to and print from home. Mary

    3. Hollis, Not to my knowledge, but I am not of the Mormon or Latter Day Saint faith. I do believe Ancestry.com owns Rootsweb.com and Genealogy.com. This is for everyone's information: One Great Family (OGF) I understand was another site that was free in the beginning, but now charges a membership fee like Ancestry.com and Genealogy.com. When I first came upon their site, I found the names, dates and places of myself, my husband, my children, my grandchildren, my siblings and their families enter six (6) times. I e-mailed them requesting the names and e-mail addresses of the submitters. They sent me three (3). One name I recognized the other two I didn't know. I e-mailed them, two bounced, the one I knew and one I didn't know. The third e-mailed me back saying she didn't submit the information that I should get in touch with OGF. I e-mailed her back telling her that OGF was where I got her name and e-mail address. She finally said that she didn't remember sending it to them. I was able to get in touch with my "cousin" and he was the one who told me that OGF was once free and that he would request the information to be removed. I have requested on a number of occasions as late as last month, that they remove the information from my parents on down. They continue to refuse my request. OGF's homepage instructs you to have the permission of the individuals on whom you submit information. I explained to their representatives that no one had my permission to post my information on the internet, especially on living individuals. I told the last one that I would tell everyone I know not to use their service. She accused me of slander. I told her that the telling of the truth is not slander. I even explained the fact that people are out there stealing personal identifications. I still can't get though to them. The dollar signs ($$$$$) are the only thing they see.

    1. Fw: Ancestry is *not* charging for access to trees or selling trees:

    3. ----- Original Message ----- To: <SC-Genealogy-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2004 5:58 PM Subject: Re: [SC] Free Family Tree Viewing to be eliminated - Ancestry Changes Just an FYI. My understanding is that they are not charging. Please see the message below that contains information from the ancestry.com help desk. I know it is confusing but I hope this helps a bit. Take care - Emma The message is below: Ancestry is *not* charging for access to trees or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. Think of it as a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. Hiring a human research assistant doesn't sell them the data being researched, or change the rules so that only they are allowed to look. That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human.
