If it was in Georgia, then that is the 1832 Georgia Cherokee Land Lottery. These grants were from lands "ceded" by the Chrokees to the State of Georgia, and included most of North and much of West Georgia down to about present day Carroll County. The 1832 lottery was the last of the Cherokee lands to be granted outright. There is a book titled "The Cherokee Land Lottery" which includes the grants of, I think, 202 1/2 acres per lot. There was a seperate drawing for "gold lots" of 40 acres per lot. There is a copy of this book at the Troup County, Ga., Archives in LaGrange, Ga. The book of regular grants is indexed, but the one for gold lots is not. Hope this helps. Jimmy > >
My records indicate a Cherokee Chief name Barefoot married in the State of Georgia c1803. His son Thomas was born c1809, also in Georgia. I don't know which county, nor the name of the wife. I would appreciate any information anyone is willing to share. Thank you very much, Winn --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). This is informational for all descendants of Neverson Cook and Margaret Greer Cook buried in East Hall County , Georgia. The cemetery was surveyed today by the Southeastern Archeological Service. Only two markers remain in this cemetery but today they determined a total of 22 graves! Most have fieldstones but two have total slabs over them. I will be glad to send anyone a map of the survey. Thanks, Vicky Hall County SavingGraves
Thanks for your prompt reply, yes I have them on the Catoosa census of 1880. I have not been able to find Alma on the 1870 census, I am think she was at home in Atlanta with her family. I found David C. living alone in Atlanta and working for the Railroad at that time. . I think they married later that year, or in 1871 or 2, since Lela was born in 1873, but these dates are conjecture. My grandmother, ( her daughter) wrote they were married by Clement Evans in the Evans Chapel in Atlanta, but did not put the date. Not only do I not have the date of the wedding by there is no record of Alma's father anywhere, and I do not know his first name. I know she was born in Clanton, Georga in 1851..( no record due to the burning of the courthouse in the Civil War), and the family moved to Atlanta about 18959 and apparently were living there during the burning of Atlanta etc. Regards, Betty -----Original Message----- From: ATK'sgrannie [mailto:gnw@rose.net] Sent: Wednesday, August 18, 2004 10:56 AM To: GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [GA-Roots] Kendricks/Stephens Perhaps since they are on the 1880 Census there, they married in Catoosa County and that is why you have not found the info. 1880 Census Place Wood Station, Catoosa, Georgia Family History Library Film 1254137 NA Film Number T9-0137 Page Number 206B Name Relation Marital Status Gender Race Age Birthplace Occupation Father's Birthplace Mother's Birthplace David KENDRICK Self M Male W 30 GA Farmer GA GA Alma KENDRICK Wife M Female W 29 GA Keeping House GA GA Lela KENDRICK Dau S Female W 7 GA GA GA Edward KENDRICK Son S Male W 5 GA GA GA Alma KENDRICK Dau S Female W 3 GA GA GA --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. I am looking for information about a wedding that took place in Evans Chapel, Atlanta, Ga officiated by Clement Evans ( General of the South during the Civil War) between 1870-73 between Alma Stephens, and David C. Kendrick. Sadly I do not have the exact date. I have looked at the Atlanta Newspapers of that time hoping to find a wedding notice..but there are none at all, apparently it was not the custom at that time to put wedding notices or obits in the newspaper. Any suggestions of how to research this event would be greatly appreciated. Betty
Hello, I see the Woodall surname is mentioned here. I also have Woodall ancestors that were in Ga. I have a Henry Thomas Woodall, that was in Pike Co. Ga. He was the son of a James B. Woodall, who was in Ga. My Woodall's started out in Va., and migrated down to Ga. Do any of these names sound familiar? Do you have a Georgia Brick Wall relative? One that you have been searching for for years, but can't find any information on? The GA AHGP Unknown County web site has a Brickwall page where you can post the information and hopefully someone will come along and give you that little bit of information that will break down the brickwall. It is located at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gaunknow/brickwall.html BUT after you post your information, please let us know if you change your e-mail addy. Several people have contacted us the last few days about addys that no longer work. How are you going to break down a brick wall if your e-mail addy does not work. You will also find at this URL a list of counties that have brick wall pages. You might want to check them out also.
