Jane, that was beautifully written. Thank you for sharing those old memories. Pat, in Indiana
Does anyone have any idea of when Heard Co. marriage records might be online, or, if they are, where would they be found? Also, cemetery records. Thanks, Betty E. More
I use both all the time. Ancestry has a lot more on it but Genealogy Library through Family Tree Maker does have the census records (for many states) for 1850 that are complete - all family members are named. The census records from Ancestry name only the Head of Household but have many more census records and, for that matter, records of all kinds. Betty E. There are many different kinds of research but recently the words "arm chair" research brought with it such a longing to indulge in my favorite pasttime that I dressed in the most comfortable clothes I own, loaded the camcorder & camera, notebook & pen and carried along a very small cassette player and went visiting. Have you ever tried to get out of the car at a family member's home when you are a much loved family member yourself? Before the door is opened wide enough, you are wrapped in bear hugs that let you know without doubt they are very glad you came. Ever heard the expression "Come on in, take off your shoes & rest a spell?" Ah, but days spent like that are a joy. Smiles everywhere, old family stories handed down for generations, old letters brought out for you to read & copy if you want to along with those precious recordings in old family Bibles. Not just names & dates stuck in there, either. Oh, no. The older generation saved newspaper clipping of obits & marriage announcements, graduations and so much more. And oh the old photo albums you look at with half a dozen family members hanging over your shoulders making sure you know who is whom and who did what to whom. More than enough food to feed an army and everyone watching to make sure you eat a sufficient amount to fill those scrawny bones out. Days like that are sheer bliss to recall and later pass on to your own children. Arm chair research......I wouldn't trade it for all the gold in the world. It's value is priceless. Jane
Can anyone advise me, as to which site is the best to subscribe to, the Ancestry.com or Family Tree Maker. I have been researching for about 2 1/2 years, but have never used either one. Pat, in Indiana

Bless your heart. You're no more senile than the rest of us. OK, I think I've got it. You take care of the babies and I'll take care of the archives. I'm putting this information on the List to see if we can get some help, in either Bladen County or Georgia.
