Dee, very sorry that I neglected to recall dates & wasted your time. Am Very red-faced as you give us so very much of your time that it's quite horrendous of us not to triple check our e-mails to you! Also Dee, would it be better for us to send look-up requests directly, not to list? Am sure everyone here feels as I do "that you are a treasure & that none of us want to try your patience" & we all want to make this as painless as possible for you & for the crowd awaiting your posts!..Just newbies,Dee, forgive us our ignorance! I promise to check your list faithfully from now on! Thank you Dot Hunt
Would you please check for a marriage in SC for _________Cantrell and Francis (Pool)?May have been in the Pendleton Dist.-possible date 1820"s.thank you so much.Debbie Wood
My Great, Great, Great Grandfather died in Wisconsin in 1865 and his body was transported back to Chicago, by train to be buried. Presumably near his wife who had been living with their daughter and son in law Electra and Francis Sherman who owned the Sherman Hotel, years later called the Sherman House. Frances was also the Mayor of Chicago during the Civil War. Anyway would anyone have any idea what Cemetary in Chicago would be the most logical place to start looking for their graves? Are there any books that have the Cemeteries in Chicago indexed with who is buried in each cemetery? If anyone can help me I'd appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! Emma That is Benjamin Talton Mims b: 4 mar 1812 Not the right one I,m afraid... I need the Parents of Benjamin Franklin Mims born 25 Dec 1833 or 1835, in Ga, we have been told he is a Jr and his Father Benjamin Sr was also born in Ga and His mother was from SC. So I am hoping that they married in SC, I have tried every where else. In the years of looking for him I have gathered over 6000 Mims but no luck as far as finding out who he belongs to...So if any one needs Mims let me know... Thank you Ann Mims-Neff HI Elizabeth, found the following: Benjamin Mims to Mary Williams July 28, 1839 Edgefield Co. Hope this helps a bit - Take care
I am looking for the marriage of Squire Lowery or Lowry maybe in NC. could be Wilkes NC. He was born about 1770/80 He has a son borned in 1820 and his name is John B. Lowery or Lowry. Marjorie Cummings marjoriec@getaway.net
I did not mean to imply that a Marriage License was not required, and that it had to be signed and recorded/filed by the person who solemnizes the Marriage...but as for the Preacher/Clergyman having to be registered him/herself, I only know of one State (Oklahoma) that requires registration with the County...In Texas, it doesn't matter, Washington either...We are the UNITED STATES where Governemnt is not supposed to organize or interfere with religion, and Marriage is/was a religious institution in bygone eras. >From: Susan Goodin <sgoodin@earthlink.net> >Reply-To: GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com >To: GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com >Subject: Re: [GA-Roots] Preacher >Date: Sat, 03 Jun 2000 23:22:25 -0700 >As a "preacher," I know most contemporary clergy (or whoever will do the >marrying) must get a license to marry folks.
