    3. From: <JodieK444@aol.com> To: <GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, June 25, 2000 3:07 AM Subject: [GA-Roots] Coweta Co. Gen. Soc. Newsletter Index Good Morning Jodie, I have a question to ask about an obit for my GrGrandpa John W. Robinson. He married Martha Fain in Cass County in 1846. They lived in what became Haralson County until a few years after the start of the War Between the States at which time he sold all his Carroll Co. Land to a man named Brewster. He then moved to Newnan where he lived until shortly after the war ended when he then moved to Atlanta where he died in 1879. I have been unable to find an obit in Atlanta. He is buried in Oakland Cemetery in the Anderson family plot near his daughter. On the off-chance an obit was published in Coweta County can someone look in one of those quarterlies and see if he is listed. He was related by marriage to the HAMMOND, ANDERSON, GARNER, and ADAIR lines. His son's, Norvell and George M., were in the real estate business. George M. disappeared from local records but Norvell apparently moved to Atlanta where he is buried. Both men were married and had offspring. Verbal tradition says one of his sons (we believe it was Michael) supposedly got into a bad real estate deal and his father paid off the debt. George M. held the rank of 1st.Lt in Company "H", 1st Georgia Volunteer Cavalry where he served as its commanding officer. He submitted his commission in 1864 but was carried on the rolls for a few more years. We know from Confederate records that his unit fought at Stones River as well as the defense of Atlanta. Any help would be appreciated. Angus P. Robinson

    2. William A. Crum
    3. I am new to this list. I am hunting for information regarding the death of John Crum. We have evidence of him being in VA on th 18th day of October 1830. There is a Deed Trust - Kennerly from Crum - on File in Virginia real estate. A relative, now deceased has notes that read, "He and his wife went to live near Atlanta, Ga. and where he died, most likely with some of her people." The family Bible says he was born in 1760 and Mary Pigg Crum, his wife was born August 10, 1770. Any help you can give will be most appreciated. Asella Crum

    1. [GA-Roots] Campbell County info
    2. Sending this to the new Campbell Co. list and the GA list: This may be of interest to those trying to find Old Campbell County information and having difficulty because the county doesn't exist any more. I stumbled onto an untapped gold mine when I was finally able to visit the Coweta County Genealogical Society's library and research center in Grantville. First, they have much information relating to Campbell County and many other counties in Georgia, and Alabama, including some censuses on microfilm. Second, when you join, you receive their quarterly newsletter which, since fall of 1990, includes information about Campbell County. Back issues are indexed (back to Spriing 1982) and may be ordered for a small fee. If the complete issue is not available, they will make a copy for you for a fee. Here is just a sample of the contents (entire contents of issue given, not just Campbell County): Vol. 10, Issue 1, Fall 1990: Early residents of Campbell County, GA; Shell family info: descendants of William Shell b. 1740, d. 1881; Mary Wright Shell Bible; Index to estates-Coweta Co, GA 1827-1860, Abner thru Barnett; picture of William Clopton and Sarah Bird Carnes. Vol. 10, Issue 2, Winter 1990: Allen Gay descendants; William Brock family sheet b. ca. 1786 NC(when you join, they publish your family group sheet and/or your family pedigree chart in a future issue); Old Campbell early residents; General index to estates, cont - Barnes thru Brady; Newnan City Tax digest 1908, A-J; Turin High School pupils Vol. 10, Issue 3, Spring 1991: Cochran and Brewster families of Old Campbell County, GA; William Henry Harrison Hayes (b. 1841) Family Bible Records; Taliaferro Family Info; Ancestors of James F. Jordan; Ancestors of Alice Criswell; More GAY descendants; Isaac P. Gay Bible Records; corrections to Gay info pub. in Vol. 10, Issue 2; General Index to Estates cont, Bridges thru Burney; 1908 Newnan City Tax Digest, conclusion. Vol. 10, Issue 4, Summer 1991: Old Campbell County residents, 1832 Land Lottery; Pedigree chart of Sarah Frances REID Middleton (8 generations); Family Bible records of Joel Timothy Walker and Ellen Z. Witcher Lollas Walker; General Index to Estates, cont, Camp thru Conner; Index to Vol. 10, issues 1-4. Back issues, if available, are $4 plus .75 postage and handling. Out-of-print issues can be copied for $5 plus .75 postage and handling. Most issues are 24 pages long. Exception is the Spring 1983 which is the Commemorative Edition, 75 pages, $8.50 plus $1.50 postage and handling. If you guys think it's worth it, I would be happy to type up and send to the list(s) the complete index of all the issues. I don't have the back issues...just the index. Coweta Gen, Soc. dues per year are $18, single (one newsletter sent per household); $21, family (2 members per household receive 1 newsletter); Associate membership (Civic groups, businesses, other societies), $23. The facility in Grantville is open Mon.-Thurs- 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. For information and to join: Coweta County Genealogical Society, Inc. P.O.
