Here's McAfee's info about this worm: <http://vil.nai.com/villib/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=10509> Thanks for the reminder to check my virus protection programs as well as Microsoft updates to be sure I was current. I try to remember to do check each at lest weekly, but sometimes the time just gets away from me. Aloha, Bev in Alabama, USA :) <alohabev@earthlink.net>
The following site should have a solution to the KAK Worm. Good luck! Hope Coslett Pees Seguin, Texas jouett@axs4u.net www.getvirushelp.com\KAK\info.ssi
Dee, Could you look and see if you have anything on a John W. McDonald. He was born about 1730 in Scotland and died in 1803 in Columbia county Ga. His wife's name was Elizabeth. I especially would like to find out her maiden name and where her and John are buried. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us all. If I owe you anything let me know. I'll gladly reemburse? (is that spelled right..Ha.Ha) you! Renee
If This Happens, What Do You Do To Correct The Problem ? Do the people who are sending these messages - actually have the Kak.worm on there computer hard drive?? If so, chances are they are passing it around through their emails? ----- Original Message ----- From: <PeeWee1025@aol.com> To: <GA-ROOTS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, July 17, 2000 1:03 PM Subject: Re: [GA-Roots] Look-ups - Kak worm response > In a message dated 7/17/2000 10:18:57 AM Pacific Daylight Time, > robinbla@sccoast.net writes: > > << driver memory > problem. >> > mine just tells me I have a driver memory error then I can go on an run it. > Where do I go to find out . > > Thanks > Karen > > RESEARCHING: SOWDER, MARABLE, TERRELL, PARRISH, GRAY, PROCHNO, RICH > >
When you boot your computer it tells you there is a driver memory problem. Then you try ro do something and it tells you "so-so says not today" and shuts your computer down. Robin BridalBarb@aol.com wrote: > What does the virus do that you know you have it? > Barb
What does the virus do that you know you have it? Barb
Sorry, did not mean to send this to the list.
Microsoft has a free patch download for those using outlook express...they are the most vulnerable it seems. Doris Moore djmoore@nb.net
Joyce, here is part of a message my sister-in-law sent me. " found out what was causing the problems you had with my pc. On the 1st day of the month the Wscript.kak worm that had infected it was showing up. It caused the memo at the bottom to say "Driver memory" and the "SO and so says Not Today" that you saw. When you clicked on OK it shut it down. Those were 2 of the signs of the worm. I went online and figured out how to get rid of it. It mostly gets in through your signature thing, so when I was getting rid of it, one thing that was done was I disabled the signature application. Never used it anyway." Hopefully this may help out! I got it yesterday and use Netscape and Norton Virus. Norton caught it but could not extract the message from the temp file to identify origin. Jim
1. WALLACE: Needing what I can find on an Oliver WALLACE. (parents, siblings, ?) He started out in Charleston SC then moved to GA. He may have gone to Campbell County GA. He might have been married to a Judith (?). they had a daughter Sarah Savina Wallace in 1807. Sarah married John KIDD 2. KIDD: Need to know parents of JOHN KIDD. (possibly John KIDD III) but can't verify. He married Sarah Savina Wallace. known to be in Campbell County GA 3. PATTERSON: hunting parents of P. Tryon PATTERSON SR of Franklin Co GA 1765 time period.
OK, this note would be referring to me :-) My first Murdoch would be Dr. Joseph who was b. abt 1765 d. 1823 in White Co. The name had changed to Murdock by 1832 - his son Allen m. Elizabeth Freeman. Jeptha Murdock m. Nancy Hood by 1850. her parents were Lewis or Louis and Nancy Hood, Sr. These names would be most likely in Habersham/White Co. but I don't really know what part of GA they came into. Dr. Joseph is supposed to have been a Loyalist, but I'm not convinced, yet. I think about any Murdock/H in the area is a "cousin." Marsha Dee Thompson wrote: > > I've received dozens of lookup requests on these new books with a general directive to search for a last name (and sometimes 15 last names). Please be a tad more specific. These books cover a time frame from the early 1700s to the late 1800s. I can check the EARLY SETTLERS book quickly, but the other new books are indexed within EACH volume - meaning that I will have to go through over fifty volumes checking for your name. So if you want a response in my lifetime narrow the scope a bit, 'cause obviously I'm going for the "quickies" first. > > Dee > > For details on sources used, refer to this link: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncbladen/lookups.htm -- Ford House http://www.cybertrails.com/~meandsteve "Let the redeemed of the earth say so..." Dee Could you look up: Robert Phillips b abt 1794 SC moved to GA before 1815 Jesse Beck b. abt 1780 Robert Hobbs b. 1754 MD moved to SC, then GA. Anything you may find will be most helpful. I appreciate you taking the time to do this. Thank you, Diane Pinion dcpinion@bellsouth.net
I know of this worm. My dau got the thing in her computer the first week she had it. It is more common for those who use Explorer than Netscape according to Gateway. She also had Norton, but this is pretty new worm. Man, I'm so jealous. I'd love to go through those Archives. Maybe someday, but Arizona is a way off. Can you just look and see if any of my names are mentioned. If so and you don't mind I'd pay for the copies. GA names: Hood, Murdoch, Murdock Marsha -- Ford House http://www.cybertrails.com/~meandsteve "Let the redeemed of the earth say so..." Psalm 107:2
