Brain-dead me just realized that # 79 reflects the entry of claims for, among others, those who were on THE LIST OF THE EARLY SETTLERS OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA, or stated another way: # 79 is the only land record for those settlers who received land in Georgia under the "Trustees for Establishing the Colony of Georgia in America" [a charter that lasted 21 years]. So, anyone who was successful in finding a name on the list, let me know and we'll check this book also for any additional information. Debbie, From # 70 No Underwoods From # 85 Underwood, Richard. Ga._______.4 Oct. 1785_______. Underwood, Samuel. Ga._______.22 Apr. 1784. 287 1/2 acres. Don't rule out the thought that your Aaron's father may well have been from another state and moved to Georgia to benefit from the liberal land grants. Aaron's father may also have acquired land as simply a resident of Georgia and NOT as a Revolutionary veteran which would be a different kettle of fish, bookwise. I have a Reubin Hill as son of Theophilus Hill is this incorrect? He was born about 1828 married Sarah Touchton and had these known children: William, Rachel, and Berry. They lived in Lowndes County, but I believe that Reubin may have been born in Screven County. Can anyone tell me the parents of this Reubin Hill if not Theophilus..... Please remember that the List of the Early Settlers of Georgia is just that, - a list of people sent to establish the Colony It will not afford me the opportunity to search for parents and children of a person you ask about. A subject that brings to mind the character of "Tavington" on the present movie "The Patriot" was Alexander Wylly, husband of Margaret Armstrong and son-in-law of William and Ann Armstrong of North Carolina. A biography of him, as given in the book "Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia", by Folks Huxford, (Volume 5, p. 522) is as follows: WYLLY, ALEXANDER CAMPBELL 1760-1833 GLYNN COUNTY, GA. Alexander Campbell Wylly was born in Savannah in 1760 a son of Alexander and Susannah Wylly. His parents who were loyalists during the Revolutionary War, fled to the Bahama Islands during the early part of the Revolution, and he was married there at Abaco, Jan. 10, 1787, to Margaret Armstrong, born 1769, daughter of William and Ann Armstrong, a loyalist family who had fled there from North Carolina. Alexander C. Wylly was educated at Oxford in England. The Revolution coming on, he enlisted in the British Army and served as a captain under Gen. Provost when he marched from St. Augustine to Savannah. He was said to have been strict and harsh in carrying out his orders, and on account of his unpopularity with the men under him he transferred to the Bahamas to live and married there. Later he was appointed Governor of New Providence Island. On account of the movement in England to free the slaves in the British colonies he moved back to Georgia in 1803.
