So sorry to hear of this loss.
Is there anyone on the mailing list that has access to a CD or other reference source that has will abstracts for Wilkes County, GA 1807-1809 that would do a lookup for me? All I need at the moment is just the names that would be listed as heirs. I would greatly appreciate it. Jane jab50@bellsouth.net

Some info on FL Counties: Gadsden Co. was created in 1823 from part of Jackson Co. established in 1822 from Escambia Co. created in 1822 as one of the two original counties. The other original county was St. Johns, also created in 1822 when FL became a Territory. GA. Counties: Decatur Co. was established in 1823 from part of Early Co. that was formed in 1818 from Creek Indian Lands. This is from "The Handy Book for Genealogists". Hope this will help you some. Please excuse the multiple messages. I need info regarding the Florida & Georgia state line. I know it moved around from time to time over a period of many, many years before it was finally settled. I am researching in Gadsden Co, FL and Decatur Co, FL. It would be helpful to know more about where and when the state line was located. For instance, I know a person could have been born in what we now know as Florida, but at the time of their birth, it was known as Georgia. If anyone has any info on this or can tell me where to find some, I would really appreciate it. Thanks! Thanks for the kind words, Lorna. Nearly everyone has a few stories like this that they run across in their research, and while there is some genealogical content that might be interesting to someone on the list, more than anything else it just makes it a little more fun and interesting than just dry names and dates. I have some more like this and I will try to keep them coming. Good Morning, On file in the Georgia Archives is the papers of Lavender Robinson Ray. Among those papers is the RAY family genealogy. You might try there. I don't remember the archive number offhand but I am sure one of their librarians or archivists could locate this for you. The Coweta Ray line that I have knowledge of is descended from John Ray who, if I remember correctly, married a Lavender. This would connect them to George Michael Lavender, a famous Indian trader and close friend of Cherokee Indian Chief Ridge. I hope this information helps. As an added inducement to check out this information, the Ray line is descended from the Cowart's, one of many lines involved in the Fight for Independence in 1776. There are people from the Georgia Archives on line. Can one of you please help Valerie? Angus "Scotty" Robinson
I saw a posting to the Strickland-L of 8/1/2000. In it is mentioned: Elisha Strickland m. Nancy Ray, 21 Nov 1835 in Coweta Co., GA. (Now, the Coweta Co Marriage Records book, Vol. I shows the date as 29 Nov 1835. ) But what I really am interested in is Nancy Ray. Does anyone know anything of her family -- parents, siblings, birthplaces? In my husband's tree we have an Anna Ray (b. ca 1819 in GA) who married Francis Nixon on 2 Mar 1837 in Meriwether Co.,GA. Francis owned land in the 1st district (Haralson area) of Coweta Co., GA as early as Jan 1836. This area is just over the boarder from Meriwether Co., GA -- barely into Coweta Co. In my files, I also have a Martha Ray, "of Meriwether Co., GA" b. ca 1811. Martha married James Windom -- who is connected to Francis Nixon. Anyone know if there is a connection between Anna (Ray) Nixon, Martha (Ray) Windom and Nancy (Ray) Strickland?
