    1. [GA-Roots] JENKS
    2. Hi Virginia, I can't tell you if Willis Jenks actually won a draw, but here is some information that might be helpful. In "Information on Some GA Pioneers," by Jos. Maddox, compiled from registrants of the 1805 GA Land Lottery, he has: Willis Jenks, Franklin Co. md. Rebecca Wilson 1805 in Jackson Co. In "Gone to GA: by Stewart I found: 1820 Census, Gwinnett Co, GA Willis Jinks 0-1-0-0-1-0 (males) 1-0-0-1-0-0 (females) Note: Willis was in Pike Co. GA in 1827 Lottery. This family is found in Wake and Chatham Cos. NC in 1790 (See pension papers of Thomas Jinks, NC S41696) Hope this helps. Barbara S.

    1. [GA-Roots] James Benjamin Bettis and Lee Bettis
    2. I am looking for any information about James Benjamin Bettis and his father Lee Bettis. Family rumor says that Lee was a full-blooded Cherokee or Creek Indian traveling with his tribe through GA. His tribe was stopped at Polk County GA when he met Polly Arnold and they had two children: James Bettis, @ 1887 and Nancy Bettis @ 1888. Unfortunaly, that is all I have on Lee Bettis. I don't even know if Lee was his first name or middle or even a nickname. He is the family brick wall. Any information, ideas, or leads will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sandy

    1. [GA-Roots] Thrasher Grave Marker found East Point Ga. JEFF O. THRASHER.
    2. S.K.Bramlett
    3. THRASHER, Jeff O.-b:16 Jan 1940; d: 1 March 1985 Several years ago, a grave marker with the above name was found on the side of Ware Ave. in East Point Ga. The city retrieved the marker and is storing it for safe keeping in the Connally family cemetery in East Point until it can be claimed and returned to it's rightful place. It is possible that this could have been a fabricated name for a memorial sales showroom and the named person may not exist. A Social Security search was done with the names and dates on an online search engine and no results were returned. It is also possible since it was discarded like refuse that it could have been stored in one of the near by homes for later placement and was discarded when the home was sold. There is a Thrasher lot in the Hill Crest cemetery located in East Point and would like to hear from this family to see if it Belongs there. If any of the above applies please email or call 404-762-0940 Thank you.

    1. [GA-Roots] Census on-line
    2. Crilley
    3. I'd really like to see us work hard to get more Georgia county census transcribed and on-line. If you have a CD for any county census year, and would be willing to transcribe even one or two pages....I feel certain we could get some teams going within the counties. If you'd like to purchase a CD....and also help out the archives: SK Publications provides a FREE copy of the CD census microfilm images not of the books. See their website at http://www.skpub.com/genie/index.html for details. The bottom line. When you pay $0.50 a census page to have SK Pubs master a CD of a particular census year, you also purchase a copy for the archives. S-K does not have every year done yet....but you can sign up on their web site...and also see the number of people they would require to actually to the CD. That's another way, county people could work together. When you consider how many people are researching on-line in Georgia, I think we could work together to accomplish lots of things!! 3. Glenda, your Martins are not related to mine. My grandfather, T.A. Martin b. SC, wed GA, died FL and lies in an unmarked grave in an unknown cemetery. >From the Death Certificate #14134, Registered No. 9, Columbia Co, Florida, Precinct Suwannee, Dist No. 10-037: T. A. Martin Residence: Lake City R/C [does this mean rural/county?] Length of residence where death occurred: 1 year Male, white, married to Ida Martin Age: 38 yrs 6 mos. Occupation of Deceased: Laborer Birthplace: SC Birthplace of Father: SC Informant: Ida Martin Her address: Lake City R/C Date of Death: Dec 29, 1923 Filed: Dec 30, 1923 by Registrar: P.G. Brown I hereby certify, That I attended deceased from Dec 9, 1923 to Dec 29, 1923, and that I last saw him alive on Dec 9, 1923 and that death occurred, on the date stated above, at 7:15 [am/pm not marked] The Cause of Death was as follows: Appopoxsy Signed: L.A. Burnett, M.D. Address White Springs, Fla Undertaker: None Date of Burial or Removal: Dec 30, 1923 Place of Burial, Cremation or Removal: ? ? [I can not make this out. Looks like it could be Corinth Cem. Is there a cemetery with a name similiar to this? If so, has a survey been made of this cemetery? My mother thought the name was Oak Hunam or some such, but she was a young girl when her father died. ________ Thomas Alonzo 'Lon' Martin was born June 1, 1884 Anderson Co. SC. He wed Ida Missouri SPIRES Feb 22, 1903 near Milan, Telfair Co. GA. He died Dec 29, 1923 Lake City/White Springs, Columbia Co. SC. His parents were Lucius S. Martin b Nov 13, 1850 SC d. March 6, 1898 SC & Malinda Louisa KING b June 2, 1852 Anderson Co. SC. d Jan 2, 1923 Anderson Co. SC. The siblings of Thomas Alonzo Martin are: Carrie Elizabeth wed J. Eli Clark; Lou Etta wed 1.Styles Smith 2. Charlie Otis; Lucia Polly ; Nannie J. wed Boggs, and Thomas Alonzo Martin registered for the 1917-18 Civilian Draft Registration in Bradford Co. Florida. He was a hard working man. I have a few of the journals he kept that my mama was able to save. Parts of 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917 and all of 1919. He wrote down everything he bought, every letter sent and received, the work he did each day. He worked with lumber, loaded boxcars, built sawmill, built home for his family, worked the land, worked for others, and would not take pay for time off sick with a stroke. He could not lay in a sick bed and get paid for it. My grandfather was a man who took care of his own as long as he could. He was 38 when he died and they had 6 young children. My grandmother was 96. I have a letter in which she was telling mama of a dream she'd just had of her Lon. She said he'd been gone 40 years and he looked the same. She told him she wanted to go with him and he said she couldn't yet. It was many years before she could join him. If anyone can help with the name of the cemetery I would appreciate it.
