In 1851,Samuel Curtright and two others incorporated the county's first steam-powered mill, which planed lumber,grist,flour,and saw mills dotted the countryside,with communities springing up around them as trade developed. Factories also began to appear. Troup Factory,was built in 1847 on Flat Shoals Creek in the southern part of the County. I don't know the history of the names but their locations and maps of same are found on the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS) at this URL: http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnis/web_query.gnis_web_query_form Type in the feature name which in this case is "factory" and choose Georgia as the state.
