Hi Dick. I don't know of a website, but I do know that there is a wealth of information available on GA, from the beginnings, with Oglethorpe's landings, first settlers, all kinds of correspondence and genealogical information, up through the American Revolution, including who was waiting for grants from the King, what life was like, etc., in a series of books called the Colonial Records of Georgia, and then the Revolutionary Records of Ga. (I'm pretty sure of the titles). I would think that most of the larger libraries would have the sets. It's fascinating stuff. It seems to me I have seen it mentioned on this list that there is a rootsweb list for the Civil War. I have some questions to pose. Could someone help me out? Sandy
Hi all, I have good news! We have moved the the GA Family Group Sheet Project to a new location & it now will be easier for you to get your group sheets online. New URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~garichmo/groupindx.html The new URL still has all the "old" features, but it has expanded to take more than text files. Please bookmark this, & pass the word along! Jeanne Arguelles <[email protected]> had a great idea of doing a search for Madison County, & then linking to those families on her Madison County GA page. If ya'll Have a GA web site & figure a way for me to help you do this too, then let me know, ok? Feel free to use the Family Group Sheet image located on our site. It was made especially for this project, from some fine GA lovers, Brenda & hubby Chuck. Here are the latest uploads to our GA Family Group Sheets Project. I hope there will be some new connections! If so, I have a place for you to post your "Success Story": http://www.rootsweb.com/~garichmo/bios/connect.html I lost some during the "move", so if you've posted already, please do so again. In the middle to late 1700's, 1765-1770, my ggg grandfather, George NUTTERFIELD, or some similar spelling, was born in the state of Georgia. Or, should I say the settlement or grant of Georgia. I have no idea of the records available, or even where to begin in pre revolutionary days. I know that he was old enough to have been on the revolutionary rolls 1780-1789, and served in the Davidson County (Nashville) Rangers, 1792-1798. I am trying to find ANY record of Him. Naturally, I would like to have his birth date, Parents, siblings etc. Were there tax rolls, or something similar to the census at that time? He might have had sibling George, Charles, Elizabeth, Matilda, and Gholson. Can any one help???Or, is there a mail list that covers this time period? Thanks, Dick Carter [email protected]
Have just added some more Obits to the Polk County AHGP web site. Mostly from 1900 to 1919. Have many more to post in the coming days. The site is still under construction. Does anyone know how Doublerun, Georgia came to have its name? I know there was one set of train tracks beside it. Also one store and one filling station. A good distance away was a two room school. Bush School. Bush school had a 4F club for the girls. I was too young to be in it, but I have a photo of myself with my sister, and the other 4F girls and one of my little brothers.. Would like to know the names of these girls. Some were Mogene Moore, Paulette Johnson, and a girl name Freddie. One had family living near Brooks and Bill Martin. This was in the late 1940s. I think the teacher/principal was Ruth Kiker. I thought she was a mean person. Made me read aloud once when she knew I was so hoarse I could barely speak. The kids laughed, but I finished reading my paragraph. Guess she needed some laughter/distraction in her boring day/life. When I was a child we lived in Doublerun for some months and the train tracks were right behind our 'house'. We small ones would sneak straight pins and put them on the rails so when the train passed over them we'd have 'fairy scissors'. Mama would scold us. (she was the one who told us about fairy scissors) Said we'd make the train fall over on the house. We never put anything other than these pins on the rails. You could seen through the boards of this house. There was no ceiling either. Just the rafters then the tin roof. Mama would cover us with everything she could find to keep us warm at night. A job since there were 7 children at home then. This is where we had our first experience having an 'outhouse'. First experience with a wash pot, 2 room country school, straw broom, riding in a mule drawn wagon. It was great to a 6 yr old. This morning am wondering if Doublerun is still in existence and how it's changed. >From what I remember we were the only family living there. No one else would have lived in that tumbling down house except a family coming down from Atlanta who didn't know any better! Jeanette Johnson Martin

Jeanette, According to World Book Encyclopedia, Rebecca is a town located at L6. It is southeast of Cordele, GA, and I believe that it is in Turner County (hard for my 66-year old eyes to make sure before I take the book outside into the morning light). If you look down to the south slightly to the right from Macon, GA, Rebecca appears a little past half-way down to the Florida line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jeanette Martin" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 18, 2002 11:22 PM Subject: [GA-Roots] Need website for Georgia cities in USA > Can someone give me the website for Georgia cities? > > Trying to find the county of Rebecca, Georgia. > > Thanks, > > Jeanette > > > ==== GA-ROOTS Mailing List ==== > Faye Dyess [email protected] Listmanager > Thou shalt not use e-mail for any illegal or unethical purpose. > GA Volunteer lookups:http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/state/volunteer.html > > >

If anyone finds a marriage, annullment, or divorce for Charlie Alonzo Martin in Georgia, please let me know. This would be in the late 1940s, I think. He died in Texas. Thanks, Jeanette
