The Georgia State AHGP web site has been updated. Three more counties have been adopted and are now online. Be sure to request your county before they are all adopted. Don't forget to check out the "Brick Wall" Page. Several new postings have been listed this week. See if you can help these people break down their 'brick wall'. Who knows, they could have information on one of your relatives to help break down your 'brick wall'. Be sure to bookmark the sites and visit often as new information is being added almost daily. DOes anyone know where Woods Grove cemetery in Towns county is located? Thanks. Lynda
The Floyd County, GA AHGP web site has been updated with new "Brick Wall" requests and Family web site information. There has been added a new "Mystery Photo" page and a list of Towns and Cities from the 1895 Floyd County Atlas. All are up for "adoption". Drop by soon and "adopt" your town before someone else gets it. Other projects are in the works and hope to have them online soon. One of the County Hosts for GA AHGP sent this notice out and I am passing it on in case you did not receive it on another list. If interested in this project please contact Paula or me and we will see that the photos are placed online. Doris Hi All, The following message was posted on another mailing list that I subscribe to and I thought it might be a good idea to pass along. A lot of you will be going there to make those pics anyway so why not add a few more as a kindness to those not able to be there to make their own. Some may not be able to travel and some may just live too far away. Do other genealogy researchers a big favor and include those extras. Then if you will email them to me and specify the cemetery, I will post them online for other researchers to see. > Greetings, all! > With this weekend being Memorial Day, and several of you will be > traveling to cemeteries, I would like to suggest that you take a digital > camera with you, and take some photos of the tombstones in the cemeteries > that you visit. Small cemeteries can easily be covered by one person, but > larger cemeteries would need several people to take photos. > This is just an idea I'm floating/proposing, since cemeteries usually > look their best at Memorial Day, and it usually isn't too hot yet to be > out. >>so there is somewhere to put all these photos once we gather them. On behalf of all the other researchers out there and myself I would like to thank you in advance for your kindness. Paula Georgia AHGP http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/state/ email to [email protected]
Virginia, Many, many thanks to you and Barbara Winge for all your hard work. Sure hope Barbara doesn't wear her fingers out with all the typing. :-) Carolyn Cooper in Kansas
Barbara Winge continues to work on typing up Baptist Ministers of Georgia...the book was published in 1881....so you can tell it is about those very early ones. These are posted on the GAGenWeb Biography Archives page. (We also have categories for Famous People, Physicians, and all the people for whom a County is named) http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ga/bios.htm#baptist Sure hope this helps some of you...and would love to hear if you do connect with them. We're working our way down the alphabet.....and haven't gotten very far...but there is already so much information there!! Virginia Crilley

Hi all, As most of you know, back in February we started a project on GAGenWeb for family group sheets. It is has sky-rocketed, & not too long ago we went over 1000 group sheets online. I had decided beforehand to do something "special" for our 1000th. That would involve the "winner" doing a write up, & then I would send this out to all counties, & states the family was linked to, & make a featured link on our home page: http://www.rootsweb.com/~garichmo/groupindx.html Here's Pat's family write up--she just happens not to know that much about this particular line & would love some help with! Bettie <>< ----------------------------------- Pat WINDSCHITL <[email protected]> Isaac ROOKS was born about 1778, place unknown. He married Abigail Kemp MERCER, the widow of Malachi MERCER, and the daughter of Solomon and Margaret Kemp. Abigail was born about 1772 in Bladen County, North Carolina. It is unknown if any children were born to this union. In the 1821 land lottery of Georgia, Screven County, Isaac ROOKS was granted 202.5 acres in Monroe County, Mills Militia District, Land Lot 226, Section 6. There was a grant fee of $19.00. On the 9th of September of 1823 Isaac ROOKS purchased crockery ware, two cows and calves, one pot and an oven lid, from the estate of Lucy THOMAS, deceased, for the price of $24.62. He purchased wedges, hoes and a plow, from the estate of Benjamin FREEMAN, for $1.50. In Screven County, Georgia, on Jun 6, 1837, Isaac ROOKS became the guardian of Barwell, Moses J. and William LARISEY. On December 03, 1843, an Isaac ROOKS married Sarah W. FISHER, in Screven County, Georgia. She was born about 1825. They had three children: Susan ROOKS was born about 1847 and married Zachariah PATTERSON in Bullock County, Georgia on 07 August 1861. Isaac DeKalb ROOKS was born 20 Apr 1849 in Screven County, Georgia. He married Hannah Mary LENAHAN on 06 December 1874 in Augusta, Georgia. Mildred M. ROOKS married Charles A. SLEDGE Jr. Living in an Isaac ROOKS household, in the 1820 federal census of Screven County, Georgia, were one male 26-45, one female 26-45 and one slave. In the federal census of 1830, Screven County, Georgia, there was one male 15-20, one male 40-50, one female 10-15, one female 50-60, and three slaves in the household. Was this the same Isaac ROOKS family as the one in 1820? The Screven County, Georgia, federal census of 1840, 34th District, shows one male 10-15, one male 15-20, one male 60-70 and one female 50-60. Again the statistics don't tell us if this was the same Isaac ROOKS family in all three census years. My Isaac ROOKS, and his family, were finally listed in the 1850 federal census of Screven County, Georgia, by name, with Isaac, age 73, farmer, and place of birth listed as Georgia. Also shown were: Sarah, age 25, Susan, age 3 and Isaac D., three months, all born in Georgia. In the Slave Schedule of 1850 Screven County, Georgia, an Isaac ROOKS was listed in the 74th District and he had one slave. In 1853, when Isaac ROOKS would have been about 75 years old, he filed a Deed of Trust with Robert SHARPE of Screven County, who was trustee for Susan, Isaac and Mildred, children of Isaac ROOKS. In the federal census of 1860, Screven County, Georgia, Isaac ROOKS, age 90, was enumerated living in the household of John TAYLOR, farmer, age 76. Isaac was listed as a pauper, born in South Carolina. Sarah and her children were not enumerated on this page and we have been unable to locate them in Georgia in 1860. At some point she married John WALSH and she died in Milledgeville, Georgia, on the 29th of September 1916. Isaac ROOKS' date and place of death are unknown. Was there only one Isaac ROOKS who married both Abigail Kemp MERCER and Sarah W. FISHER? Or were there two men, possibly father and son, one who married Abigail Kemp MERCER and the other who was the husband of Sarah W. FISHER? The mystery lingers on.
This John Driver is brother to my great-great-great-Grandfather [George Washington Driver] whose son, my great-great-Grandfather [William Riley Driver] was born in Ware County, Georgia. I am extremely interested in finding out about John Driver. John and George served on opposite sides during the War For Southern Independence. AND they each had a son serve with them. Brothers and First Cousins and Uncles! I can only imagine the pain the families living during those times must have felt. John was living in Duval County on the 1860 Census. Apparently John Driver died between 1860 and 1880. Since his wife was living in Bradford County on the 1880 Census with their son, James Madison Driver. I want to find out WHERE John died. In Duval County? Or had they moved again? I have some documents I found in Hamilton County, Florida courthouse that were transacted in 1854 and 1856, I can't make much sense of them because I could not get a good 'complete' copy. There are six partial pages, and at $1.00 per copy and me with so many other things I needed that day....I will have to return another day. ;-) The fact that I found my ggg-grandparents marriage license in Hamilton County as well [George Washington Driver and Susannah Griffin], gives me hope that I might uncover some little tidbit about them, if I can find out more about John and his family. If anyone has even a small correction or addition on ANY of the family members listed herein...please do share with me. I will gladly share any data that I have, that would help you. 1. I have more information on Hersey/Spivey... I looked over the info that I do have and found this...Thomas and Rebecca were in Ware County in 1820..where from what I have and what my sources say too that they were married in Ware County, GA. I went to the 1850 GA census for Ware County and found Thomas age 25....but couldn't find Rebecca...their last child was born in 1848...it could have been possible that she died but not sure. Thomas actually died in 1907...I found this at this website: familysearch.org Thomas was born Sept 28, 1802....but it is spelled Hursey. I also found on this website that said Rebecca was born in 1808. Both say Telfair County, GA..... If anyone has anymore information on what I just put in...please help me....I would like to know more.... Stephanie Grohol
I am seeking infromation on the parents and family of Rebecca Spivey who married Thomas Hersey. Rebecca was born in 1820 and lived in the Darlington District in SC.
