Hi List. I need help locating descendants of and finding genealogical information on one of my Great-Great Aunts' family: Laura McRae (about 1862- 9 Feb 1930) married Thurman Dennis Hayes (May 1859- 26 Dec 1929) about 1882 in Georgia. Laura and Dennis lived Pondtown, Dodge, Georgia in 1900, in Rhine Town, Dodge, Georgia in 1910 and they had nine children that I am aware of: Lillie Hayes (7 Mar 1883-unknown), married Archie Walker (29 Mar 1876- 17 Dec 1963) on 20 Mar 1898 in Pondtown, Dodge, Georgia; Hattie Hayes (May 1885-unknown); Jordan Alexander Hayes (9 or 15 Jul 1887- 3 Jul 1927); Therman Dennis Hayes (Feb 1889-unknown); Josephine Hayes (Aug 1891-unknown); Sarah Hayes (Jul 1892-unknown); Minta Hayes (Feb 1895-unknown); Mattie Hayes (Jul 1899-unknown), William M. K. Hayes (about 1901-unknown). Laura's parents are Moses and Tempy McRae from Mount Vernon, Georgia. Thurman's parents appear to be Thurman Hayes and Molly Jones of North Carolina (Wake County?). They moved to Dodge County before 1900 raised their children there. Laura and Dennis both died in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia and are buried in Barney Cemetery in Rhine Town. Lillie appears in the 1935, 1940 and 1945 censuses in Jacksonville, Florida but not with Archie. She had a daughter, Revella Faye Walker Campbell (6 Feb 1900- 21 Jun 1978) Archie appeard in the 1920 census still in Dodge County with wife Nancy. Jordan was in the U. S. Army 30 Apr 1918- 19 Mar 1919 and returned to Dodge County, he died of a gunshot wound in Abbeville, Wilcox County, Georgia on 3 Jul 1927. I find no evidence of him marrying or having children. I did not find the others in 1920 or subsequent censuses Thanks, A.J. What do you want to accomplish this year with your research? Find that brick wall? How are you going to do that? Send email? Send letters? Use the message board? Get all your family to fill out a family group sheet? Bribe them? Threaten them? NO. Appeal to their curiosity? Do a DNA test? Get a family member to do a DNA test? Claim it and do it. Brick wall - how long since you took that ancestor out and showed them to someone? Bring them out and show them off either here or on a message board. It pays to advertise. Here's your free commercial. Have you ask family members for help? I can tell you but personal experience, you may not have ask the right question. Those who don't do genealogy, don't know what clues are. For years I ask the wrong questions. When one of my cousins passed, her friend called my aunt and told her there were pictures and other family items she and her sisters needed to come and get. I took my mother and her sisters. At the end of the day, I got all of the pictures. In the pictures, I found pictures of both my grandmothers maternal and paternal grandparents, names and where they were born. All I had ever ask was questions about her parents. Never did It occur to me there was info about the grandparents. Re-think your questions. After the pictures, within 2 weeks I found researching cousins on both sides who gave me great info One gave me a info back to the 1300's. I use that as a bases of my research. Never assume all info is correct. I have a family tree from my husbands side, I know is incorrect. I use that info to prove mine. Take a moment and show off your ancestor, Kemis Massey Admin

I composed a nice message and when I sent it to the list, it came through without the text. I apologize. My Georgia problems: Barbara/Barbary married a Mr. Jackson. They were both born in North Carolina, according to census statements by their known children. Daughter Susan, born about 1808 in Georgia, married Peter Garner probably in Tennessee. Daughter Lucinda, born about 1815 in Georgia, married Goodin Deaton. Both families migrated to Clark County, Arkansas, with stops elsewhere. Two more children *may* belong in this family: Isham and Elizabeth Nancy. Barbara *may* have a connection to the surnames Furr, Furrer and Case. What was Barbara’s maiden name, and what was her Jackson husband’s first name? ------------------------------------------- Joel Daffron was born about 1825/`1830 in Tennessee, but is believed to the son of Owen Daffron and his wife Nancy who lived in Walker County, Georgia. I’d like to prove that he is Owen’s son. Joel’s children were born in Illinois, Georgia and Tennessee. Joel probably had two wives. My book, The Ancestors of Two Brothers: Thomas Earl Garner and Robert Paul Garner, can be found at https://dcms.lds.org/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE184770 The index begins after page 770. An update containing much Daffron information has been digitized but is not yet found in the Family History Library Catalog. I hope it will be available soon. I will be happy to correspond about either of these families. My wiregrass roots on my paternal grandmother's side are Knight, Goodbread, Brown, Parrish, Souder, Dean, Sessions, VanZant, Lamb, Stewart, Franklin, Barr, Coursey, Drawdy, Stafford, Odum, Mizell, and Price. Cullen EDWARDS, born about 1770 in North Carolina, was the first sheriff of Telfair County, GA, which was formed in 1808. Cullen received land in 1807 lottery. He moved to Gadsden County, Florida by 1825. Various land records show Cullen associated with William Edwards, Shelah/Shiloh & a Susannah. Would like to learn who Shelah/Shiloh was. Where was Cullen Edwards born in NC and who were his parents? Madison E. RHODES, born 1813 in North Carolina, grew up in Walker County, GA, married Miriam Johnson (also born in NC). Madison lived most of his life in Walker County and was buried in Catoosa County, GA. Where was Madison Rhodes born in NC and who were his parents? Other families include WARLICK (Gilmer County), COBB (Gilmer County), SUTTON (Habersham & Montgomery counties), DARBY (Montgomery County), McMILLAN (Pickens County), BRADLEY (Hall, Pickens, Forsyth counties), EATON (Hall County), and VICKERS (Washington County). Thanks Gerald! Some of those are related (per DNA) and I am sure some maybe descend from those from PA. DNA says they are two separate groups.
