Winn, I am interested in finding out more about my COX line, can you please email me to see if we connect. _ecox456683@aol.com_ (mailto:ecox456683@aol.com) Thanks Elaine Eaves Cox
Hi, I am also related to the Aldredge's, J.L. & Iris ; His dad was Tyson and I believe his dad was Jessie Aldredge. I am also related to the Hudson family, most of them are buried there. James A. Hudson, Jr.& Susie Emma Knight Hudson are my great grandparents , George A. Hudson was my grandfather, my grandmother Maggie Jones Hudson is buried in Pasco Co., FL., my Mom's oldest sister is buried next to George A. Hudson, she was about 2 yrs old when she died and her name was Lillian, but I am not sure if she has a marker or not. I have never been to Bold Springs, but I have heard of it all my life. I don't know why I haven't been there, I use to spend my summers on Uncle J.L. and Aunt Iris' farm when I was a teenager working in tobacco. I still have a lot of family up there in Albany, Ochlocknee, Cairo, and Meigs. Glad to meet someone from that area of Georgia. Winn, Many of the older cemeteries in Polk County do not have rows in any type of known order. One that I just finished typing had rows that split and then became one row again. The person that had surveyed the cemetery did a map of the cemetery and had boxes for each grave and empty grave space. It helped a lot, but we had to put it in "typed" form for the book. The only thing we could come up with was Row 1, then Row 1A, then back to Row 1. Another cemetery has few marked graves out of about 150 burials. That cemetery we had to do in sections and list the burials in groups. Not the best solutions, but the only one that we could come up with that worked for us. The book will have a full name index with married females listed by their maiden name, where known, as well as their married name. This should make the book easy to use. Hope this helps. Hi Linda, I am related to the Cox, White, Parker, Aldredge, Copeland, Singletary, Oliver, Pyles, to name a few....I think everyone in the cemetery is connected in one way or another. I think the Stewarts connect to my husband's Stewart line, but, have not checked thoroughly into that yet. Who are your relatives. Winn
Winn, I am new to the Georgia mailing list. I saw this e-mail and could not help but notice Thomas and Grady Counties, so I read further only to find Bold Springs Cemetery. I have a lot of relatives buried there. My Mom, who just passed away 3 mos. ago was born in Grady County. Tell me who are you related to there? Suggestion: When we compiled the cemeteries in Hancock County and found those not in rows we started at one point and numbered the squares and that is how we published them in the book. Giving instructions to which corner we started. ----- Original Message ----- From: "GNW" <gnw@rose.net> To: <GA-CEMETERIES-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 16, 2005 9:04 AM Subject: [GA-CEM] Re: Polk County Cemeteries > Doris, > > I don't know about Polk Co. but, Thomas and Grady have very few cemeteries > that are in rows. Doris, I don't know about Polk Co. but, Thomas and Grady have very few cemeteries that are in rows. What do you suggest for those? I write all the data down and then alphabetize it. This is easier to read and quicker to find your data. You would have a great deal of difficulty in Bold Springs Cemetery in rural Grady County. Most everyone there is a relative (mine). There are groups, but, no rows...I had a hard time finding someone who would sell a marker to be installed in it. There are many more like it around. Thanks, Winn
The Polk County Cemetery Preservation Committee is compiling a new cemetery book for Polk County, Georgia. We need help to survey the cemeteries, type the reports and verify the surveys. About 70 of the 110 plus cemeteries have been surveyed, but only a few have been verified. If you can help with this project, please let us know as soon as possible. Check out the cemetery list at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/polk/Cemeteries.html We will be glad to help you with getting started and the guidelines. (Cemeteries must be recorded in rows and clearly marked as such.) Our regular monthly meeting is this Saturday, August 20th at the Cedartown Library at 10:00 a.m. You are welcome to visit and see what all we are doing to preserve the "forgotten" cemeteries in Polk County. Please e-mail pccpc@earthlink.net or elantr@earthlink.net Thanks, Doris Robbins Polk County Cemetery Preservation Committee
