Annette, I happen to have a list of all burials in Fairview up until about 1930. There are no Hoods buried in Fairview. The book Backtracking in Barbour County, published in 1941, tells about the early Barbour County days and Mr. Hood is not mentioned. The UDC and the DAR has made mistakes with their records. However, this may be an opportunity to use the records, put them on line, and hopefully, the descendents will correct the mistakes. It happened to me with one of the ancestors I was researching. There are several web sites that have tried to do a similar project. The Georgia Veteran web site at http://www.rootsweb.com/~gavets/ is the official web site for the GA-Veterans Mailing List. The Georgia Cemetery and Volunteer List at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gacemete/ is the official web site for the GA-Cemeteries Mailing List. The Georgia section of the Tombstone Transcription Project is at http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/georgia/georgia.html These plus several more were great ideas, but after the initial boost they lost "interest" and the volunteers stopped submitting the information. To make any project a good one, we need the CONTINUED support of the volunteers submitting the transcripts and DEDICATED webmasters to post the submissions. But most volunteers and webmasters have full time jobs and all though their intentions are good, their personal lives have to take priority sometimes. Hopefully the "New" Project will be handled by more than one person and can continue when personal lives interfere with the web sites. Doris Robbins A Dedicated, but inactive webmaster. (Now that we have got moved and my health is improving, I will be back at work on the web sites soon. Have updated a couple of them this week.)

Does anyone know if cemeteries in Ware County Ga. are available on-line?
Tara, This is something that I have been wanting to do for some time now. I can start with some cemeteries that are right here in Gwinnett County. I have already started, and completed about 3/4 of Fairview Cemetery in Eufaula, Alabama. I'm up to 167 vets who are buried there. From privates to generals. Count me in! A web site with two main sections. One would linking to Civil War vets in established military cemeteries that are already on-line. Another section would be devoted to listing Civil War military graves located within individual community, church, and family cemeteries. I would be willing to be a part of a new project - anyone want to help? I can create the database, the web site, and I can donate web space. The HARD part would be gathering the material, transcribing paper records, and formatting the data properly to be ready for entry into the database. While I *can* do all of that as well, I simply don't have the time to take it all on (school, work, family, etc.) Anyone interested in becoming a part of a new project? The cemeteries for Baldwin, Hancock and Jones counties are on a website.
United Daughters of the Confederacy or Sons of Confederate Veterans are good sources for a beginning. Don't forget all those mass graves of soldiers who were just buried after a battle in GA. Mary

Hi, I need to know if anyone has any information about a Revolutionary War Cemetery in Upson County, GA. Supposedly there was a Revolutionary War veterans' hospital near the cemetery. As the veteran died, he was interred in the cemetery. My aunt said something about this. She is 88 and has lived in Upson County, GA most of her life. Thank You, Mary

Heather, Sounds like an excellent idea. Usgenweb.com would be a good source of cemeteries. However, some soldiers have been buried and there is no notation at the grave site that says he was CSA although he was. Wonder if the branch that has the CSA Ladies organization to help us. They are a good source. Can't think of the name of the organization. It's like the DAR Ladies. Surely they would have list that we could have access to and it may cover an area with more than one county. Wonder if anyone knows about this hopeful source. Absolutely! All should be included - but we'll make clear who is marked, unmarked, etc. and we'll make sure to list sources for the unmarked.
