Bobbi, Thanks I did try that number originally but it's not the cemetery I'm looking for. I finally got a hold of the City Clerk for Stone Mountain who has an index by name. No luck, though. She indicated that many of the graves have no marker so I may never get confirmation if Thomas is buried there. If anyone can suggest any other cemeteries in the DeKalb area that would have been around in 1892 I would appreciate it. Thanks everyone, Mark
Mark: Try this one. Melwood Cemetery 5170 Ponce De Leon Stone Mountain GA 30083 404-299-3966 There are some photos online but I don't believe there is a database. Bobbi

I will be visiting Jacksonville, Florida and Brunswick, Georgia in another week or so. As part of my preplanning, I would appreciate tips on cemeteries in the Brunswick to Jacksonville area with beautiful monuments worthy of photographic interest. ~~~~~~~~ I would recommend Bosque-Bello on Amelia Island (North 14th St), and Evergreen Cemetery in Jacksonville on Main St. Sounds fun! Enjoy yourself. Sherry
Linda, His name was Thomas Lemuel Whidby, died 20 Jan 1892. His oldest son, my gg-grandfather William George Whidby, is buried at Decatur cemetery. I've been there last time I was in Atlanta and found his family plot. Another son, Andrew J. Whidby, is at Westview. If you have anything on Andrew (died 16 Dec 1912) that would be appreciated as well. Thank you for checking. If I'm not mistaken, Rock Chapel is actually closer to Lithonia. You may want to be looking for Dekalb County cemeteries. If you are traveling west on I-20 through Dekalb, exit at Turner Hill, Rock Chapel is approximately 3 miles south. I have seen an online list of the Confederate dead buried at Myrtle Hill, and recall that it was a complete list. There are a number of Unknowns buried on Myrtle Hill, so it is possible that he could be there? You can also contact the Rome History Museum <www.romehistorymuseum.com> as they have more information. The Polk County Cemetery Preservation Committee is releasing the Cemetery surveys that the volunteers have been working on for the past couple of years. Most of the surveys have additional information and some have photos of the tombstones and links to the obits. The plan it to have photos of all the tombstones and links to the obits, if available. We have about 20 of the surveys online at http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/county/polk/Cemeteries.html We will be adding more each day, so if "your cemetery" is not posted yet, just keep checking back. We will get them online as soon as possible. We also need more volunteers to help with the project. Some of the cemeteries still need to be surveyed and others need to be photographed. We also need volunteers to transcribe the obits. If you would like to volunteer, please e-mail The PCCPC at pccpc@earthlink.net We can use all the help we can get. Doris
