    2. Hi Linda Not only are you a wonderful person, but you are one of the MOST wonderful people that I have had the privilege to converse with! Thank you for the McWaters obits and for Jerri's email address. As for Hillcrest, I don't think anything has been done since the cleanup last spring. I am going to send an email to Gene Vessell (he signs his emails "Crispin") He started the survey last spring. I will let you know what I find out. His email address is (or at least was) <[email protected]> in case you need to contact him. He and his wife have done lots of cemetery surveys. 3. Ann, I am not a wonderful person, and I don't have any Dilda obituaries in my collection, but I did have two McWaters death notices, and here they be: Marietta Journal and Courier March 10, 1887 - Mr. McWaters' 8-year-old daughter died at Due West, March 5th of brain fever. Cobb County Times August 1, 1935 COUNTY DEATHS AND FUNERALS MCWATERS Mrs. Sarah McWaters was buried at the Bethel churchyard in Cobb County Monday afternoon. She died Saturday at a private hospital in Atlanta at the age of 36. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. R. C. Shattles, and a sister, Mrs. C. L. Sullins, of Gadsden, Ala. Funeral services were conducted at an Atlanta funeral chapel with the Rev. W. A. Duncan officiating. - - - - - - - Ann, do you know if anybody has done any survey of the Hillcrest Cemetery yet? I need a lookup from that one, if you happen to know anybody who has anything. Also, has it been improved any at all yet? BTW, that last email address I have for Jerri is [email protected] Many thanks for any advice you might offer, and as always, best of luck in your search(es), Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2002 11:47 PM Subject: [GA-CEM] Cobb Cty Obitiuaries > Hello List > Last September a wonderful person named Jerri had some old obituaries from > Cobb County Georgia that she was going to post on this mail site. Here are the directions: >From the courthouse in Irwinton go west on Hwy. 57. At the high school turn left on J.R. Sims Rd.. Go about 13 miles. When you see an old dilapadated house on the right on a hill you are almost there. At the bottom of the hill on the right turn onto the dirt road (turns back 45 degrees). Go up the hill to where the road is cabled off by deer hunters. The cemetery is about 50 yards on the left. It only has a couple of markers so it may be hard to see. 3. There is a book called "The Old Burying Ground: Colonial Park Cemetery Savannah, Georgia 1750-1853" by Elizabeth Carpenter Piechocinski (ISBN 189149509-7). It contains not only a listing of those whose graves are still marked, but also information on those who are unmarked (but whose locations are still known), and those who are "supposed" to be there. You can get it at Amazon.com for about $20. 1. Re: [GA-CEM] Johnson and Haire Surname, Miller, Early or Baker County
    2. Richard White
    3. The Haire surname is hard to track in the Florida/South Georgia area. I pretty much believe that most or all are parts of an extended family originating in the Carolinas, but at least some are tied in with the family of two Creek chiefs, both called Yellow Hair. The elder of the two I don't know much about except that he spied on British activities on the Apalachicola River for the US. The younger one, presumably the older one's son, was called John Yellow Hair (also Yellow Hare and Yellowhair). The Apalachicola Creek Census of 1833 referred to him also as Nocose Yahola and to his wife who had just died as Mary Hair. Though the Apalachicola Creeks were removed to Texas in 1834, Nocose Yahollah apparently returned to Florida and served with the Florida Militia against the Seminoles in the 2nd Seminole War. The Apalachicolas were the band, headed by Col./Chief John Blunt, who had scouted for Jackson in the 1st Seminole War. Blunt died upon reaching Texas, and apparently, at least for a time, John Yellow Hair succeeded him as principal chief of the band. Again, though these guys were Creek chiefs, it is thought that they were mostly European in ancestry and I believe that they were part of the same extended Haire family that stemmed from the Carolinas. One thing that makes me believe that is the occurrence among them of the first name Raiford / Rayford, which also appears amongst the Carolina Haires. The area that the Creek Haires were known or believed to be associated with are Jackson, Calhoun, Liberty and Gadsden Counties in Florida and Decatur County, in Georgia. Decatur was a part of the original Early County. I don't know if (and if, how closely) the Miller County Haires might be related. 3. Hi All, It's been a while since I posted one of my brick walls and since there are many new members to the lists I thought I would give it a try again in case anyone new may know something. Charlie Otis Henderson was born March 13, 1918 in Whitfield County, GA and died May 7, 1942 in Tallapoosa County, AL. When I finally received his death certificate it listed a spouse as one, Abie Lisle (divorce). The information on the certificate was given by his mother. My wall is ~ who is Abie Lisle, where did she come from, where did she go? Was she from Alabama or from Georgia? None of his sisters ever breathed a word about her during their lifetimes and the younger generation would now like to know something about her since she was once a part of our family. If anyone has any information about her, knows her or her descendants, would you please contact me? Thank you, Paula Franklin Want quality gifts at affordable prices? 3. Deep River Friend Meeting Church (and cemetery) is at the northwest corner of the intersection of Wendover Avenue and Penny Road, Jamestown, NC (although it may not actually be in the town limits of Jamestown). It's about 4 miles southwest of Greensboro going towards High Point. Guilford County includes both High Point and Greensboro. I went to www.maps.com and looked it up for you. Here is the URL: http://www.maps.com/cgi-bin/maps/topo.cgi?lat=36.0303&lon=-79.9686&s=100&siz e=s&quad=Guilford Bob Carter Greensboro, NC ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, January 16, 2002 11:27 PM Subject: Re: [GA-CEM] Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery > > > I got unto the site, and could make out most of the names of burials. 3. There is a Deep River Friends Meeting (est. approx. 1750), at 5300 W. Wendover Ave., High Point, NC 27265, (336) 454-1928. High Point is approximately 15 miles from Greensboro, my home, in the middle of the state although the two cities almost abutt now with annexation (grab that tax money right?). There were (and are) a lot of Quakers in the area. Guilford College (a Quaker school) was established in approx. 1834 and has a library with many old records. You may want to try there if you are looking for Quakers.
