I am trying to find where Cofield Merit Knight is buried. He was born in Lee County, Ga. Nov. 28, 1832 and was murdered in Jackson County, Fl. April 12, 1865. His father had the body brought home (Miller County, Ga.) and buried. If records are available, will someone please look in Miller County and possibly Decatur County. His wife Mildred could be buried there also. Thank you in advance, Robin Addams

Chester, The Confederate Cemetery of Marietta, Georgia is filled with men whose bodies were disinterred from the Georgia battlefields of Chickamauga and Ringgold after the war in 1867 and 1869 and brought to this six acre site. By this time, many names or initials crudely written or carved on make-shift markers had all but vanished. Every effort was made by the Ladies Aid Society to identify and record the names of these bodies, but some were never identified. And even though the names of those identified were preserved, the original cemetery plot records were lost. There are approximately 970 unknown/unnumbered graves in the cemetery. There is a small book "Confederate Veterans Interred in the Confederate Cemetery Marietta, Georgia," by Larry O. Blair and Thomas E. Lyle. (from where I found the above information.) I purchased a copy at the Kennesaw Mountain National Park several years ago. I do not know if the book is still available. If someone of your ancestor's generation recalled him being buried in this cemetery, he may very well have been. Just to let you know I also checked in Cobb County Georgia Cemeteries, Volume III, The Marietta National Cemetery and there was no listing for Wilson Garman/Garmon.
There is no listing for a Wilson Henley Garmon or Garman in the Marietta Confederate Cemetery on Powder Springs St. There are 3,000 graves but only 890 are identified. Source: Cobb County Georgia Cemeteries, Volume I.
There are several volunteers that will do lookups in Cobb County. You can find them listed on the GA Cemetery & Volunteer list web site at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gacemete/ Also on the Volunteer page at GA AHGP http://www.usgennet.org/usa/ga/state/page1.html#cobb Most counties have been covered, but we still need volunteers. If you have a book for a Georgia County and would like to do look-ups, please let me know. Also need people that can go into the cemeteries and take pictures of markers or can go to the courthouse and library for look-ups.
